PLO Man and Globex are both Simpsons references. Plow Man appears S04E09 and Globex Corporation is S08E02. Would be interesting to see if there are any other Easter eggs waiting to be discovered :) Fingers crossed for some 2019 releases.

Acting press is one of those rare gems of a label that only comes around every so often. The most exiting thing about the label, besides the superb tunes, is the fact that it seems so shrouded in mystery in a way that evokes the old-school ethos its artists are all tapping into. The hype it would seem for acting press is very real but unlike most other flavor of the week acts in the underground, the hype is very well deserved.

In 2015 the whole scene was sick and tired of rose tinted "90's revival" tunes. It seemed as if for the past four years thats all that was showing up. What makes Acting Press stand out among those countless other nostalgically inclined productions? All of the music on this label is completely self-aware and careful not to fall into predictable pitfalls and tropes of yesteryear's electronic music.

It's a very easy thing to copy a musical aesthetic. The hard part is saying something new. For everyone at Acting Press, especially PLO Man, the techno discourse is moving in a very good direction. The productions are paying homage to the sounds of the past while at the same time pushing for a very unique and very raw feeling that no other contemporary artists have been able to top. Pick up these slices of wax whenever you can, you will not be disappointed.

Acting Press is to 2015 what White Material was to 2012. Thing with these labels is like taking a VERY good pill. The magic, whilst present, overpowers all reason and judgement. Which is, at the end of the day, good. Small time players suddenly become sought after phenomenons. After all, why shouldn't they?

Quality tunes need to get out there and get exposed to a larger public. Good music must be heard, exposed cherished and preserved for everyone's sake. Unfortunately, along with the short term infatuation comes the burden of the supply / demand ratio of the vinyl market. The price of these records inflates a mere week after they hit the shelves. That is nothing to worry about though. A record is only worth as much as one is willing to pay for it. Apparently, there are individuals out there who can afford it.

My concern is: once the hype cools off, and it always does, what is really left? The shine White Material originally had has waned, and the enthusiasm has turned into a routine. Not a bad thing though. Once established, a label has removed a lot of weight off its shoulders.

Point is: this imprint has accumulated a lot of attention in no time. Sound wise, they are onto something, most definitely, however I would really like to see where they go next. Will this be just another past time hobby until the next big thing comes along - and that would be a shame - or does this label actually have a common thread and a vision that will enable it to overcome its current blindly buy on sight regardless of the content status it's stuck with at the moment...

Anyways, some great ch00ns available here, whether the price tag is justified or not, who am I to say? Listen to the music on its own merit, as though you were blind folded and decide for yourself! For those of you looking to scoop up some old school flavored gravy with a modern production touch, your money is well placed here. Good luck with the future release schedule.
