Essential albums

Albums I own which stand head and shoulders above the rest.

You might wonder why there's no Debussy, Beatles, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, etc. on here. It's because they're among many artists who have insanely great moments, or who had a long run of occasional greatness, but they seldom have one particular album that blows me away or that I would say is "essential". Even the compilations of their "greatest hits" tend to be too weak to include. But whatever, it's just one guy's opinion. No one is looking at this list, anyway.

  1. The Cure - Standing On A Beach • The Singles

Compilation also known as Staring At The Sea - The Singles.

  2. The Smiths - Meat Is Murder

...especially the editions which include "How Soon is Now?"

  3. New Order - Substance

A compilation of the band's seminal 12" singles & EPs, not album cuts.

  4. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome

Only the first half of this album is great. Really great. The second half, no so much.
