Erdős number for Merzbow. Only data from official splits, collaborations and remix albums is counted, as well as performances of contemporary sheet music(*). Aliases of a certain artist are considered to have the same number, but are not listed here(**) and serve as links unless one has a joint release with Merzbow. For example, S.B.O.T.H.I. and alias Achim Wollscheid are listed here as tier-1 both having collabs with Merzbow; unlisted Yuzuru Syogase (alias Xerosx) is virtually tier-1 making Kaiser Nietzsche tier-2. This is made not to overload the list with aliases. Please note that Merzbow itself is technically regarded as a group in the context of this list. This list will almost certainly be somehow inaccurate, but its primary aim is to illustrate deep connections between experimental music community. If you find out that a number is invalid, please let me know.
Interestingly, such widely-known people as Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, Yoko Ono or Bernie Sanders are already on tier 2 while being proper collaborants of tier-1 collaborants.
(*)Including all the main artists without context would mean that, say, Mozart would be at least tier-3. The point of this list is to explore collaboration, and in case of contemporary composers the line is often less transparent. Even working at legacies of recently deceased artists (which means the existence of copyright) can be positioned as a contribution to forming the image of their body of work. In case of working with sheet music of pre-recording era, this issue is naturally perceived as working with public-domain media and does not contribute to the original composer's creative image. Again, there might be inaccuracies with that.
(**)They are being listed here: Aliases of Merzdős list artists.
Stats: tier 1 has 133 items; tier 2 has 2114 items; tier 3 has 1722 items (work in progress). Revised 9 July 2021.
This list is available in "docx" format for internal search possibilities: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z-lmZ-pRY2ZUcDfNNz9qWChUXfPZSTfY. There are positional numeration issues there for technical reasons.
