NOW APPEARING: Live Performances.

These are the performers and acts I was privileged enough to see in concert. I went to my first concert (HIldegarde) with my mother in 1975 (I think). I went from Hildegarde to Sonny and Cher (the second concert I remember attending) in 1977, and then I was on my way...
  1. 1
    Hildegarde
1975 (I think). Greenwich High School Auditorium, Greenwich, CT. I ran up on stage after the concert to ask her to sign her book ("Over 50, So What") for my mother. I have the book now.
  2. 2
    Sonny & Cher
1977. Westchester Premier Theatre in Tarrytown, NY. Sonny was dressed in a powder-blue jumpsuit, and Cher was in a sleeveless dress (no costume changes). We sat in the last row of the audience. For the last song, they sang three lines of "I Got You Babe" and that was it.
  3. 3
    Mickey & Becki
1981 or 1982. Pretty sure it was 1982, in NY. They were a dynamic live act.
  4. 4
    Gordon Lightfoot
1982. Symphony Hall in Springfield, MA. He forgot the words to one of his songs in the middle and the audience cracked up.
  5. 5
    Allen Ginsberg
With Peter Orlovsky, at Gerde's Folk City in NYC, Summer 1984. I bought the "First Blues" album at the concert and they both signed it. I'm sorry I didn't invite myself to have a drink with them after the concert.
  6. 6
    Odetta
I saw her in concert multiple times. First was at the Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert in Summer 1985. Then at the Speakeasy (NYC) in Summer 1986. Also saw her at the Turning Point in Piermont, NY (don't remember which year). And at the United Nations in NY in 1990.
  7. 7
    David Massengill
August 1985 at the Newport Folk Festival (Newport, RI). What a great singer/songwriter!
  8. 8
    Ramblin' Jack Elliott
August, 1985 at the Newport Folk Festival (Newport, RI).
  9. 9
    Arlo Guthrie
I saw him a couple of times. At the Folk City 25th Anniversary concert in 1985. At Newport Folk Festival, August, 1985.
  10. 10
    Judy Collins
I saw her numerous times through the years. The first time was at the Newport Folk Festival (Newport, RI) in August 1985. Saw her in Tarrytown, NY, and in Stamford, CT. She is a very dynamic performer.
  11. 11
    David Holt (5)
    1984 (I think). Gerde's Folk City, NYC.
  12. 12
    Eric Andersen (2)
Summer 1985. Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC.
  13. 13

  15. 15
    Violent Femmes
Summer 1985. Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC.
  16. 16
    Tom Paxton
Saw him several times. Notably Summer 1985 Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC (maybe it was in September), because I saw him before that at Newport Folk Festival, August, 1985 (Newport, RI). Loved "Yuppies In The Sky" ("Condos for sale, Condos to buy...").
  17. 17
    Libby Titus
Summer 1985. Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC.
  18. 18
    The Roches
Saw them multiple times. Summer 1985, Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC. In Tarrytown, NY (I think the venue was called Tarrytown Music Hall?) when they were promoting "A Dove." Terrific performers.
  19. 19
    The Washington Squares
NYC, Bottom Line. Can't remember which year.
  20. 20
    Melanie (2)
Saw her MANY times, from 1985 - 2004 (when she was promoting "Paled By Dimmer Light"). Her son Beau performed at the last concert I attended. What a great guitarist he is!
  21. 21
    Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
I saw them at the Left Banke in Mount Vernon, NY when they were promoting "Bad Reputation."
  22. 22
    Roger McGuinn
Summer 1985, Gerde's Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert, NYC.
  23. 23
    Pete Seeger
Saw him at the Clearwater Festival at Westchester Community College, at SUNY Purchase. Also, he appeared at SUNY Purchase and I went to that concert.
  24. 24
    The Monkees
Saw them in the mid-1980s, at the Pier in New York City, sans Nesmith. Around the time of "That Was Then, This Is Now." They were great!
  25. 25
    "Weird Al" Yankovic
He opened for the Monkees. NYC, mid-1980s.
