nothing special. just a list of classic hip hop/rap singles from the 1980s. 1979 songs like "Rapper's Delight" are also included here as there's just not enough 70s rap tunes to put a separate list.

This list is based on what I've heard on various online radio stations that feature classic hip hop stations, Music Choice, various music/radio trade magazines, random compilations such as Ego Trip's Greatest Singles, video games like the GTA series, and so on.
