Underrated Alt. Metal, Industrial and Hardcore albums...and more

These are albums (some independent) that may have been overlooked, because of lack of exposure, a certain tag or maybe even stereotyped. Please don't overlook some bands, just because of a Christian tag. Some of these bands were more positive, not overtly preachy and had good talent, most importantly. Of course, most of what's here isn't from the Christian market. It's a shame that some bands changed their sound, to sell their albums. Some (here) did not get their deserved recognition and some became overexposed. Added the more underexposed albums by bands on this list. Yeah, emo, screamo and other stuff is popular nowadays, but that doesn't mean (a few of) these bands should have faded because of dwindling popularity. Personally agree with many people that think the term 'Nü Metal' is dumber than stupid! Please be advised: I do not personally own any of the demos, indie releases or other rarities below. Wanted to showcase some items worth seeking and collecting. Much thanks for the input and suggestions given! (Much apologies for not thanking you all sooner). Thanks for reading and looking, as well!

Update: (Dec. 2013 -►►): Deleted the debut Lostprophets album, because of their forever tarnished image (minus everyone in the band, except their singer that never again deserves any mention!!!). NME mag and many other related news and music publications explained the whole graphic story (in case you haven't heard).

  1. Static-X - Machine

    26 For Sale from $1.99

A good sophomore effort, in my book. Some singles, weren't as instantly catchy as the debut. Still, this is one of those albums that got better with repeated listens. Owned the Cd. R.I.P. Wayne Static [1965-2014].

  2. Deftones - Deftones

    21 For Sale from $1.00

Liked better by fans than critics and why? This is one of those albums that gets better with repeated listens. Their most underrated album? Maybe, but who are critics anyway ...HAAAA!!!

  3. Mudvayne - The End Of All Things To Come

    13 For Sale from $1.99

Much darker in tone, but their songwriting improved. Other later albums have good tracks to jam to, as well. Had on Cd.

  4. From Autumn To Ashes - Too Bad You're Beautiful

    14 For Sale from $1.99

I think of them as mature, even as aggressive as they seemed. The band was also as good as any, if not smarter. This album is just damn good! Oh yeah, don't miss out in some of their other releases.

  5. Orgy - Vapor Transmission

Definitely overlooked! These guys deserved much better, because there's good industrial music on here. Their cover of New Order's, 'Blue Monday' from the debut "Candyass", is not their only good song. Had this on a 2 Cd set with a promo single (Target store edition).

  6. Kittie - Spit

    28 For Sale from $1.49

A really good, maybe overlooked debut. I think they put many male bands to shame. Harder than any emo and better than screamo-type acts, no joke!! Owned this Cd.

  7. The Apex Theory - Topsy-Turvy

    21 For Sale from $0.99

Another Los Angeles based band with mostly Armenian members! System Of A Down must know them. Anyway, they eventually changed their name to MT. Helium and added an experimental edge to their sound. A good mix of the unexpected.

  8. Endo - Evolve

    14 For Sale from $1.99

Much better debut than what most critics have said about it and the ratings it has been given. Give it a chance and decide for yourself.

  9. Crossbreed (3) - Synthetic Division

    12 For Sale from $2.98

A little more intense then let's say, Spineshank and Orgy. You may be as surprised as I was, when giving this a spin.

  10. Darwin's Waiting Room - Orphan

    17 For Sale from $1.70

Underrated album from a hybrid act that disappeared too soon. Comparisons to 311, Taproot and P.O.D. may come to mind. Owned the enhanced Cd once. By the way, also a real shame their sophomore album never came out. It was leaked apparently, though it supposedly was to be physically released in 2003!

  11. (hed) pe* - (hed) pe

    16 For Sale from $1.13

Yeah, it's another album seen as a rap/metal hybrid, but it's rather more than that. It's better musically (IMO) compared to some other bands, ahem ...more popular albums. I'd rather not name bands that come to mind.

  12. Godsmack - Awake

    31 For Sale from $0.74

Pretty good sophomore album. The debut had better songs overall. Lost track of them after this, honestly. Owned on Cd.

  13. U.P.O. - No Pleasantries

    32 For Sale from $0.95

Good and heavy debut from the defunct Los Angeles act. They released one more album named "The Heavy", before finally splitting not long after.

  14. Taproot - Welcome

Second major label release and not as well received it seems. Another head scratcher to me, because this album deserves better! Owned this on Cd, by the way.

  15. Primer 55 - Introduction To Mayhem

    7 For Sale from $3.00

Rap Metal isn't what it used to be, but these guys were better than some of the other acts at the time. Some video game soundtracks include songs by this artist. Owned this Cd once.

  16. Sevendust - Animosity

    18 For Sale from $1.00

A good mature effort that was maybe overlooked. It's cool that some of my video games have their tracks to choose from.

  17. Helmet (2) - Aftertaste

    22 For Sale from $0.50

Not as good as earlier releases for sure, but it still has catchy tunes. Their first two albums were still the very best!

  18. Chevelle (2) - Point #1

    10 For Sale from $2.00

Debut album that's good and showed promise. Later releases proved these guys do rock! Once owned the album with a promo single.

  19. Papa Roach - Lovehatetragedy

    15 For Sale from $1.13

Maybe overlooked album, because of the overhyped, but good major label debut. There's more here than just rap and metal. These guys are really good live.

  20. Ill Niño - Revolution Revolución

    58 For Sale from $0.57

These guys are underrated. Sure they mix Spanish and English lyrics/singing, but their intensity in their music is walloping. Songs are very catchy, as well.

  21. Puya - Fundamental

    14 For Sale from $1.99

A kick-ass band from Puerto Rico! They mixed Spanish and English in their lyrics. This, their sophomore effort is outstanding!

  22. Finger Eleven - Finger Eleven

    7 For Sale from $0.98

Very mature compared to some of their comrades. Was very surprised about how good this was.

  23. Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage

    4 For Sale from $5.00

2000 release and their first. Some say they were better in their demo/unsigned days, though this still is a very strong debut.

  24. Killswitch Engage - The End Of Heartache

    22 For Sale from $1.99

Probably their most hated early release. Why?! Too much of a change in sound or direction? Don't understand the low ratings I've seen by fans of the band or metal fans in general. The point is, this is not a bad album.

  25. Watch Them Die - Watch Them Die

    11 For Sale from $2.34

This honestly classifies as in more death metal in style, maybe mixed with crust and hardcore elements. I would compare this to maybe, Slipknot's "Iowa" for brutal intensity.
