These are the first CDs to have a mother/stamper code. There is almost always a space or dash between the mother and stamper IDs. It is located at "6 o'clock", i.e. half a rotation away from the main matrix number. I have yet to spot a Gen3 glass master with a mother/stamper code at any other location, which is weird because you would think that in the Gen4 era, when the mother/stamper ID was closer to the main matrix number, they still would have pressed some with Gen3 glass masters.
The unused space in the matrix area of these CDs is filled, as in previous generations.
Earliest originals from this generation spotted so far seem to be the Depeche Mode and New Order promo singles which would have been out circa April 1988. Latest ones seem to be from late 1989, e.g. I think the Robert Palmer compilation is from October/November.
