I’m a huge Kenny Wheeler and Dave Holland fan - particularly the albums they recorded at ECM. This is a very modern record - chamber jazz - no drummer (a la Jimmy Giuffre’s great ECM trios). This record does not swing - it is ethereal music to be listened to in a darkened room in deep winter. Astonishingly, the Allmusic Guide only gave it 2 stars! This reflects, I think, an anti ECM US bias).
The vinyl release is much more open and musical than the CD from the 1990s. Crisp, great soundstage, lots of air and pleasing contributions from these legendary musicians. An excellent vinyl reissue from ECM: recommended if you like this type of music.referencing Angel Song (2×LP, Album, Reissue) ECM 1607
I have been very excited the past few weeks because I knew I was receiving this record as a Christmas present.. WOW! This is one of those ethereal albums that words cannot really describe. I had listened to it through Spotify but this vinyl pressing (the first time it has ever been pressed in this format) totally opens up the music and lets it breathe. This album helped open my eyes to post 1960s Lee Konitz who has become one of my all time favorites in recent years. It also goes without saying that having Bill Frisell and Dave Holland in the lineup would be interesting as well. Kenny Wheeler's playing is sublime and the music on this LP (without a drummer) is unique and unlike anything I can think of off the top of my head. Typical eye opening ECM release as well! 10/10referencing Angel Song (2×LP, Album, Reissue) ECM 1607
I’m astonished by the music produced by these great musicians in this record. I think ECM is also responsible for our enjoyment, for bringing this music to us in the past and now. To add a bit of nerd behavior to my humble review, I must add that the record sound is incredibly good. The luminessence series is on par with my best 70’s and 80’s ECM’s.
Highly recommended.
Well done ECMreferencing Angel Song (2×LP, Album, Reissue) ECM 1607
This is what we want ECM! Immaculate pressings of incredible albums that were originally released in the vinyl wilderness years. This album just makes me melt, it’s emotional, full of such complex interplay and crystal clarity. Perfect in every way.- Edited 9 months ago

I've all issues of the Luminessence series. Out of all of them, this is the first one that is almost perfectly quiet. No pops nor cracks. In addition to that, it is really a great pressing soundwise. referencing Angel Song (CD, Album) ECM 1607
It doesn't exist a vinyl press of this gem, I find it hard to believe!
