Suede – Coming Up

Beware of warped records with this release, which is a complete joke!

Suede is a band that has existed on Gregg Araki soundtracks since the 90’s. I was hesitant to purchase this album because I have several of the songs already and some of them I prefer their remixed versions such as “chemistry between us”.

Boy I was wrong to sleep on this record and I’m glad I have it in my collection to spin. From start to end the music is gorgeous, lush and full of dynamic sound.

My pressing is quiet, no surface or background noise and is even.

This album crosses genre’s and would fit in with most vinyl enthusiasts records.

I just bought a sealed version of this 4CD/1DVD box set. Getting the discs out of the back folder is a real faff. I had to slide out the lowest one and then the following ones, breaking one of the lower 'spring' holders in the process. Truly awful packeging.

Found a copy in NM condition. Sounds amazing and pressed well. Fantastic album, too.

My copy is very quietly pressed, props to GZ media for a change. Even quieter than my two other variants that GZ pressed well too. Sadly, the sound is still lacking. I know the recording is poor, being compressed to hell and lacking in harmonics and dimensionality but im sure with some care and attention and love it could be much better. As it stands this is listenable but frustratingly so like all other Demon copies. If you jist want the main LP and nice quiet vinyl and can enjoy the music despite its warts this copy at £20 will do the job. Me personally, i would rather pay £40 and have a better sound!!

Hmmm....

On the one hand, the very deep pink vinyl is wondefully flat and nigh silent (for GZ Media this is NO given) and the jacket is solid but this recording is so frustrating. An opportunity to master this or even remix it was wasted because the digital compression renders this a hard listen. The upper mids border on fatigue inducing. This is a pressing (along with the Demon clear and black presses) that benefits from a smooth rich and colourful setup. With my olde Shure its alot better than my surgically clean AT microline but the ugliness is still on show.

Hopefully if this superb album gets an anniversary half speed treatment they can improve the sound because its an open goal level of easy chance to do so!

I just finished listening to this pressing. Sounds too harsh, mids are non existent. You'll only hear treble here. Whoever mastered this, had a blanket over the monitors. It’s a loud lp, almost the same as Oasis' Big Brother remasters (Oasis are louder), e.g. Nothing too serious, tho. I dislike like the tonality, overall. Sounds very harsh, with little bass and no midrange. Plus, I had to deep clean the record, you'd be surprised with the amount of dust within the grooves. It didn't come off after a good brushing. Still, it clicks in between tracks, but playback isn’t affected.

I have this version with the matched matrix numbers but mine is not clear vinyl

Seconding the glowing review of this pressing - it has a really delicious punchiness yet stays clear and controlled up to the end of each side. This is such a great sounding recording that I don't believe any of the pressings can really be *that* bad but certainly this EU original is fantastic. Got mine back in the noughties off eBay and it must be one of my most played records in the years since. Some LPs are just workhorses.
