Reviews
Show All 13 Reviews- I was 16 years old when the Beatles released "Please Please Me". Over the next 7 years I, like billions of other people, was consumed by the musical revolution. And then suddenly, it was gone! It was a strange feeling. I mean, life goes on, but wtf? The fab four had moved on. Gone! I would hear their solo work everyday, but I didn't pay the same attention to the details that I once had. George did what was expected. Ringo was Ringo, John died way too soon, and Paul just kept on keepin' on! His music has always been around. A bedrock of popular music. I could go on, but there isn't enough space.
Paul McCartney-Pure McCartney is just simply phenomenol. An excellent pressing, of a great cross-section of this master's musical soul. And it's all presented in one beautiful place. As I sit and listen to these songs playing on my turntable, I think that if I was stranded on a lost island, and could only have one collection of songs, this might be the one. It's just me, but holding this collection in my hands is like holding a fine Waterford crystal glass. I might listen to it, and then throw it into the fireplace. But dropping it would be completely out of the question. - discogs: „If you could only listen to one album
for 30 consecutive days, which album are you
choosing?“
I choose Pure McCartney, a great pressing and compilation of wonderful songs which never gets boring.
And by the way: Herling
John Lennon gave his opinion of the Wings in an interview published in June 1975:
“…Wings is almost as conceptual a group as Plastic Ono Band. Plastic Ono was a conceptual group, meaning whoever was playing was the band. And Wings keeps changing all the time. It’s conceptual. I mean, they’re backup men for Paul. It doesn’t matter who’s playing. You can call them Wings, but it’s Paul McCartney music. And it’s good stuff….” R.I.P. - So 4 discs long and nothing from 'Flowers In The Dirt'? Surely they could have popped the single version of 'Figure of Eight' in there somewhere! It's rarely been featured anywhere since it's release, even on the reissue of the album!
- Before listening to the compilation I was listening to Wing’s greatest a Japanese Toshiba press. My main focus was Silly Love Songs. Then I listened to this. This is superb sounding. I am glad I bought this. This is very well pressed. The songs sound current and new.
The vinyls are clean. Hardly any pops. The way the songs are arranged in the real reason why you buy this LP. They flow as if Paul is telling you a story.
The sound of this LP is good. My only regret is that there isn’t a book or more notes.
I am literally in love with this. - This is a lovely item with great quality remastering and a sturdy quality book style packaging; such better value for money than the bowie recent 5 cd box set at 80 quid!
- I actually regret not buying the UCCO-8003 Japanese SHM Deluxe Set of this album. I purchased the Japanese regular two disk UCCO-3062 Japanese regular version of this cd instead. Still a great collection of songs. Very glad I purchased this for my collection.
- Great compilation. You must keep in mind that this is NOT a greatest hits but McCartney's favorite songs from his career. With that in mind, don't argue about the inclusion of some songs "over" others.
The vinyl itself is amazing. Flattest I've ever bought with no pops or surface noise.
The booklet included is a collection of photos and just the information of the individual tracks. Here the box-set falls a bit, since they could have used the oportunity to have some extra information about the songs themselves or why Paul chose that particular track. I guess they chose to keep it easy to have multiple versions of this collection with different track listing (CD, Deluxe CD and Vinyl).
The songs included that were released in the Archive Collection have those remasters (over the originals), so it's even more to McCartney's taste.
The fact that this includes songs from the albums "Chaos and creations in the backyard" and "Flaming pie" makes this collection much more valuable.
Paul put efford in choosing the order of the tracks since they are not just in order of release date. I had my doubts because this mixes songs from decades away but it works! The compilation flows from song to song and side to side.
Overall the collection is, looks and most importantly SOUNDS amazing. - Edited 6 years agoA great collection of songs selected by McCartney himself. Sure, many discuss why some songs are not included, instead of others. A common issue among almost every compilation. Won’t comment about that. I do like the concept of listening to the artist’s personal favorites. Also, I prefer the decision of not keeping a chronological order, just let the music flow.
In my opinion the vinyl edition is beautiful. My German pressing sounds great: detailed, no surface noise, flat pressings (only complain: side four looks off-centered). I love the b/w photos on the covers. The booklet could have been better, perhaps with an essay o more information about the songs and their context. I guess they chose to keep it simple, with this idea of PURE music. For me it was PURE JOY. Thanks!
