Reviews
- This Fantasy double LP contains two albums originally released by Prestige/Bluesville in the early 1960's: DOWN HOME BLUES (rec. 1959) and BLUES IN MY SOUL (rec. 1960). Roy Haynes adds some subtle percussion to the latter effort. This pressing sounds very good, with sparse instrumentation and a very pure, simple soundstage. My copy plays nice and clean with occasional faint surface noise.
- As good as any recordings from Sonny and Brownie were in 1959/1960. As anyone would say: the two were very consistent musicians. They're 4-star recordings with a point taken away only because I tend to dislike compilations that do away with original artwork and jam them together in new packaging.
