Reviews
- 100 dollars brand new for a box that just holds the records entirely loosely but opens semi-cool and records with some of the most noticeable noise and crackling of ANY record I own even when thoroughly cleaned. iam8shit strikes again.
- A beautiful looking release, but the quality of the records is honestly laughable. Disappointing to see that they obviously put most of the money into making this look nice rather than making it sound nice, like it’s supposed to. Mine has pops and crackles all through, and whilst I’m normally fine with that, it’s a LOT. The music beneath the crackles doesn’t sound great too. Granted these issues could be related to how I listened to this a couple times on one of those crappy portable players, but I doubt it could cause THAT much damage in such a short time!
Not only that but when the needle reaches the end of the LP it starts to skate across the sticker, which, uh, is not supposed to happen. Such a shame, coz this has to be one of the best video game albums ever made. I hope there’s a better quality release in the future! - I’m sad to hear quite a few people having noise/warping issues with their copies of this repress. Personally (and having listened through all of the disks multiple times at this point), other than noticing some very, very light crackling in a few of the transitions between tracks, my copy is pretty much problem free and sounds wonderfully dynamic; would consider it one of the better pressings in my collection.
- I'm very glad to own this as the soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece, but there are some unfortunate issues here.
Firstly, like many others one of my disks has fairly prominent static and popping. The best I can say is that at least Disasterpiece tends to use these elements intentionally so they blend better than they would on most other albums. It's still a disappointment that this seems to have been such a consistent issue.
Secondly, while the box does contain a track list, it doesn't actually tell you which album each track can be found on. You either need an external source or to count songs in order to figure out what is where. This is technically minor, but it's also just a really strange blunder for a premium product like this
That said, the rest of the production is delightful - a wonderful mix for vinyl, great box, good colours for the albums, and a very cute label design to feature the drifter dashing along while the record spins. - Beautiful pressing. Full of life and wonderfully dynamic. A little noisey and the second record came pretty warped (nothing to affect playback however.
Packaging is top notch. Proud to own this. - Is there possibly a third vinyl version of this? We've got one where the Matrix/Runout doesn't match either of the two listed versions.
- Adding to the comments regarding issues with sound. In my initial order, LP 1 and LP3 had sides with crackling in the audio. Iam8bit did send me replacements and they sound fine now, but, like others mentioned, they came warped. Not eno8hh to affect playback mind you, but warped nonetheless.
- The soundtrack is amazing and the pressing is great when there's no surface noise/pops, which I came across as others have described here. Unfortunately, these are warped pretty bad and wobble quite a bit... not sure what iam8bit changed here as far as pressing plants go, but their pressings are usually better than this.
- Nice packaging and presentation but this pressing is pretty awful. I got a replacement copy and on both the original and the replacement sides B and E are littered with crackle and surface noise despite cleaning and playing a few times. Anyone else have that experience? Are there wide spread issues especially with those sides? Also, pretty much every disc was warped, some mild but others very severely
- I am extremely pleased to finally have a copy of this record. Although there is some problems with distortion when things get really loud (It might be my setup... or it might be how it's supposed to sound) it has quite a lot of depth, which is the best way I can think to describe it. The quiet sounds are audible, even when the loud sounds are blasting. It's not an extremely loud soundtrack to begin with, but it has its moments. I appreciated the subtlety of the music when I played this game and I am appreciating it again on this release.
