referencing Advance And Follow (CD, Album) Disc 066 CD
This album represents a collection of music compiled over a period of seven years. The whole album was recorded in three days due to the slim budget afforded by the label and band. The first print run of about 100 copies had missing liner notes and an incorrect song order on the back. This was corrected in later print runs. Some changes were also made to the type-setting and colouring. - It's always interesting to glance back at how one of the biggest underground electronic bands of the present started their reign. Though albums like Futureperfect and Empires have their moments, they can never come close to what the band accomplished on Praise the Fallen. And since AAF was released before PTF, you can be certain that they share the same style in comparison to FP and Empires.
The overall feeling of the music is so much different, as it was on PTF: it's alot darker and angrier, truer to EBM than the futurepop of later material. The lyrics have more emphasis on topics such as freedom and politics, rather than abstract emotions. As always, the music is simple, but very effective, and it is a lot harder and EBM-ish than later material. Easily the best work of VNV Nation.
