Love letters tracks brings the heat with its synth bass. Funky groovy.referencing A Quiet Storm (LP, Album) T6-337S1
Smokey's finest post-Miracles album, this one spawned an entire radio format. I used to have a copy of the 1986 Motown CD, but it sounded horrible, so I didn't keep it long, but I never forgot the vibe of the album. 30 years later I've come across a near-mint copy of an original pressing, and it sounds so much better than I've heard before. Most of the songs drift by, light on the percussion, heavy on flutes and delicately overdubbed vocals, and it very much feels like a cohesive work. This hold up well to the high standards Stevie and Marvin were setting at the time, and it's uniquely Smokey.- Edited one year ago

Album Revolution #3:
After having 2 TERRIFIC solo LP's in the books, "Smokey Robinson" got real ambitious with the concept album in "A Quiet Storm".....
This album right here, IS THE BOMB!!!!!!!
You can tell that "Smokey" took notes from both "Marvin Gaye" and "Stevie Wonder" on how they Produced their Classics, and it paid off!!!!!
The Outright Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel in the "Title Track", not only set the tone of the album, it set it OFF!!!! The music was just OUTSTANDING, with a DEEP DEEP DEEP Bass Line, Wicked Keyboards, a Super Funky Flute, accompanied by TERRIFIC Sound Effects and MASSIVE Winds, while "Smokey" just LAYS IT OUT on Vocals!!!!! Not only is it a statement of a song, but it also became the Vocal Point of a Radio Format for decades to come....
If that wasn't enough, the 2nd Crown Jewel, "The Agony And The Ecstasy", continues "Smokey's" way of crafting a MONSTER Slow Jam....
The 3rd Crown Jewel in , "Baby That's Backatcha", is a Funky affair with "Smokey" GETTIN DOWN on Keyboards, along with a Funky Flute by "Fred Smith" and "Marvin Tarplin" on Funky Guitar....
"Wedding Song" was a nice little ditty, which was Dedicated and Composed for the Wedding of "Jermaine and Hazel Jackson"....
The 4th Crown Jewel in "Happy - The Love Theme from Lady Sings the Blues", is a very Moody Affair, with Vocals that only "Smokey" could deliver....
"Love Letters" (the 5th Crown Jewel) is another Funky joint, which shows more than ever that "Smokey" could get EXTREMELY Funky!!!!!
"Coincidentally", the final Crown Jewel, is once again having "Smokey" putting his "Funk" stamp down!!!!
I will also like to mention (even though it's not listed, SMH) the "Quiet Storm" outro at the end...It just put the cap on an fantastic album....
I kind of get emotional with this one at times, because this was one of the first albums my Mother introduced to me...At times its kind of hard for me not to think of Her when I rock this, but I can't help it, I have to ROCK IT!!!!! This is hands down "Smokey's BEST Record....And even though my Album Revolution for him is not over, it's still hard to find a better album from him, PERIOD!!!!!!!!! referencing A Quiet Storm (LP, Album, Stereo) STML 11288
Having hooked onto this LP in the mid 80's, when Motown was looking for a more commercial output... Maybe, when Smokey was more bankable through 'Being with you' etc... What an amazing LP, a kind of 'concept' project. His smooth falsetto fits the mood so well... After Stevie, Marvin etc, etc., Smokey lets rip... 'Baby That's Backatcha' is an absolute 70's Soul masterpiece... Massive for us 80's soul boys in the UK... Smokey smokes! Check it out...
