El Huervo has become my go-to background music for those times when I need to focus on a task, great atmospheric music, and not surprising at all that he has collaberated on several video game soundtracks..a perfect fit. And apropos of nothing his art is also amazing. Hard to pick standout tracks as I usually listen to the album as a whole with the songs blending together, but shoutout to Fumes, Daisuke, and Trust.

El Huervo – Do Not Lay Waste The Homes Where You Rest Your Weary Bones…… speechless.. I’d never saw or heard the music featured on this cassette coming if it wasn’t for the high recommendation of Trevor, the record store owner, where I obtained this cassette from. Limited to only 50 copies I feel lucky to own a copy of my own. The music comes off as gentle experimental ambient at first but slowly builds up to epic proportions with sounds I’ve never heard of. The opening track reminds me of something I’d heard on the Kompakt ambient series in its prime. “Fumes” starts take a wild turn and starts to sound very funky but in 70’s Yellow Magic Orchestra era style of way with great keyboard sounds and funky bass and rhythms. “Daisyuke” continues the funk sound with some heavy downtempo beats and nice keyboard playing throughout. Track starts to get distorted and fuzzy and you just want to crank this tape up to hear more! Just when you think you have this release figured out, “Bones” comes along next and takes you on an industrial like sound for everyone without messing up the flow of the listening experience. “Crush” is a total breather that just chills you out until “Trust” comes along and lifts you up. Building up on a nice techno beat that brings back the sounds I use to like hearing from Kompakt label out of Germany. “Substance” follows up with some amazing melodies and sounds pounding along moving up the ranks as probably one of my most favorite tracks off this release. “Safe” continues the flow until “Equipped” kicks in this time dropping some crazy nice Chiptune style melodies with some plush beats and lovely noise holding the listener’s attention. At this point you want this musical journey to go one for well over another hour. “Cut” has a very artic feel and brings new meaning to the term “chill out”. “Article” is right up there as my favorite track off this and not only is it for the beautiful melody throughout but I have a soft spot for Mr. Candy and hearing his voice takes me back to my youth when actors like him showed on and off the screen that they were the “real article”! This track makes me sad and happy at the same time as it sounds like it came right from the heart of the composer. “Flight” closes out the album and has a special humorous piece that “Hustles” the listener along. I hope to hear more from El Huervo and have to put this release up there in my top 10 releases for 2013. Bravo! This deserves a repress so many more can get lucky enough to hear it in its analog form.
