- "English Embers" take us to the dark & disturbing land of CONTRASTATE, painting strange pictures of lost infants in gloomy places. The poetry - spoken deeply, without emotion - reminds me of "Gododdin" or maybe DOUGLAS P in meditative mood. The atmosphere first heard with "A Thousand Badgers...." is still there, as powerful as ever. "In Absentia" returns to their strange world - oddly neo-classical compositions made of samples, loops and, in this case, whistles and flutes. It's an oddly compelling soundscape - scary for the strangeness of the terrain, yet calming. To compare them to anyone, it would have to be people like ASMUS TIETCHENS or RANDY GREIF. Somewhere between music & sculpture, it's always worth exploring.
