Very nice and heavy vinyl, sounds really good, also with nice finish. Comes in polylined inner sleeve.

I just compared the 1999 Arista CD re-issue (retail version, not a BMG or Columbia House pressing) and the original 1988 Profile CD release, and it's definitely the same mastering. The opening track even appears to be an exact clone though the other tracks I listened to are a tiny bit quieter on the 1999 Arista CD, and the difference in volume is so minuscule that it's inaudible, I only caught it by reading the numbers in a wave form analysis.

I have to agree with those who think this is a great album. I looked at some of the reviews published in 1988, and more than a few kept saying that the album sounded old-fashioned and that the group wasn't keeping up with the astonishingly fast development of hip-hop. Maybe that's how it seemed back then, but 30+ years later, arguing how this album compared to the music scene in 1988 vs. 1986 is ridiculous and meaningless. On its own terms, it doesn't feel like a drop in quality, IMHO - it's every bit as great as those first three albums. "Back from Hell" on the other hand would be a major letdown, but as far as I'm concerned, every record they put out in the '80s is a stone-cold classic.

Much heavier vinyl than the US original pressing. Cop it.

One of the all time great hip hop albums by one of the all time great hip hop groups. Absolute heavy tracks and huge beats that still stand up to today's rap beats. The title track is massive (One of my favorite) with huge guitar rock solos and some inspired sampling on others. RIP Jam Master Jay. You will be missed.

Risible and very disappointing offering from Run-DMC, especially coming right after 'Raising Hell' which should rightly be regarded as a classic of modern music... They seem to have wanted to emulate the Beastie Boys, and done most of the LP in a faux-Metal style which sounds so macho and cheesey, you can imagine it being played in a teenager's sweaty-sock bedroom with glamour girl posters on the wall. The low-point of the whole sorry performance is the laughable ditty 'Mary Mary,' which contains the sadly unforgettable refrain: 'Mary, Mary, why you buggin'... Mary, Mary, I need your huggin.' Embarrassing, naff, cringeworthy flop.

Run DMC, much like contemporaries Public Enemy, are a rap group whose albums all sound markedly different. After Raisin' Hell, Run DMC must've known they had a lot to prove in following up such a terrific record. Tougher Than Leather proved to be worth the 2-year wait. Starts strongly with Run's House, which seems to hail the band's return. Mary, Mary laments a girlfriend who's buggin' out! They Call Us Run DMC is by far my personal favourite, and showcases very well the skills of the late Jam Master Jay. Almost every track contains sampling of some kind, typical of the mid-to-late '80s, smack in between Electro-style rap and the gangster-orientated style which dominates today. The album is musically diverse; rock, soul and jazz all get a look-in. Run DMC's finest hour.
