Edited 3 months agoChart-topping remix by the Fatboy that improved on the indie-pop original. It did this mainly by adding some big funky drums that combined the distinctive breaks from Led Zeppelin's "The Crunge" and The Monkees' "Mary, Mary". Commercial big beat, but in a fun, non-cheesy way. (9)

This track is so obviously "The Wedding Present - Boing" I'm kind of stunned nobody ever mentions it. :P
2024 and I still love this record.
I forget about it and then find it again and just repeat it.
I have a MOS CD from about 98, it starts with Lion Rock, then goes into The Beat Goes On then this.
Great Pete Tong mix and really show's what was being played at the time.

The name Asha is a reference to the greatest Indian singer of all time, Asha Bhosle. Another noteworthy addition to Norman Cook's resume.
I have a copy on translucent yellow but it does have a sleeve. 1000 were made exclusively for 99X Atlanta which was the big alternative rock radio station in Atlanta back then. Easy Winners tracks is pure old school electro vocoder mixes. With getting this record just for those tracks. Damn! What a surprise.......cool.
Undoubtably the song that launched Cornershop from the pages of NME to more ubiquitous publications.
Looking back on it now - the original Single Version is by far the best here, having a lazy groove and a Bryan Wilson-esque feel, even though the Norman Cook mix is the one that everyone will remember; certainly in those 'I Love 1998' type programs anyway.
Both the Norman Cook versions on here pretty much set the standard for Big Beat crossover remixes of indie bands wallowing in obscurity.
Edited one year agoThis one is Norman Cook's most famous remix as it really outshined the original, Radio & TV played the remix, original was forgotten. But I reckon it deserves it as this remix is really great, very typical of Norman at the time but kinda smoothed out on the edges as it was a remix of a pop track.
