- Around the time of the early SUF output I always looked forward to new releases because I knew they would give me that good old 909/303 acid techno fix. All, that is, except D.O.M. Their releases terrified me.
Most other slabs of vinyl you put on the turntable and waited for the fun to begin. D.O.M. tunes on the other hand smacked you around the head and screamed "WAKE UP"!!!
This E.P. is testament to that notion. Hard as nails and not interested in being friends. Go away now. Or else. - In my view best release on this label is D.O.M Voltage Control EP. Check it out if into old school Dizstruxshon and Dj Noya epic old school acid tune that just keeps on giving. Hope this helps as took me foooking ages tind this vinyl. To all the old school mad heads lets fooooking av it
- Edited 15 years agoApproximately fifteen years ago, when this record was in the making, I seriously doubt that this duo had the public opinion or general trends in mind. The previous reviewers pretty much let you in on the details, so the best I can do is confirm: this is one of the craziest, tear your heart out of your chest and feed it to rabid one eyed labradors acid techno releases.
Paying little to no attention to strucuture, sound quality and overall likeability, these three tracks are demented, awkward, burning at the speed of light techno bangers laced with uncontrollable and absolutely berserk 303s, screaming all over the place. Literary, there are no formulas or strict text book genre guide lines followed here, these are just three 'to-hell-with-you-if-you-don't-like-it' dark, pounding, underground acid techno monsters from way back when Stay Up Forever's sound was as tongue as cheek as ever, and when they couldn't be bothered with anybody's approval or affinities.
Personally, I prefer the A side, namely Locomotive, with its crooked drum kick and distorted, jarring acid. It will leave any dance floor in flames, and the rest of this record doesn't fall far behind. This is an essential stop for fans of harder acid techno, the roots of London's amazing squat scene. - Edited 17 years ago'B1 - locamotive' is hard to mix, because the lead 303's aren't sequenced in the usual 4/4 time signature. The 303 patterns actually repeat on the third beat, and the drums are very flat and quiet, which makes it hard (almost impossible) to count the beats. This track really is a twister, but VERY hard to mix. Best saved for special occasions such as catholic weddings and sick horse conventions. I absolutely love this tune, which proves that at least one person DOES like a smart arse.
- Edited 17 years agoWOW,, 3 corking tunes in typical D.O.M. style. . . . .
B 1 - 'Locomitive' chuggs along steadily and relentlessly driving a couple of nasty sounding 303's with no chance of a coffee break, right the way to the end of the line. A bit tricky to mix, as there is no (clear) mixout.
B 2 - '404' This track sounds like it was recorded on the steam train to hell. Hissing 'piston' sounds really bring up images of a bad trip on the orient express. Well it is called 'acid techno' for a reason. 'Demented' describes this tune well.
A - 'vegetation' Is another driving 303 classic, with what sounds like an AM radio being tuned in time with the beat. You can't help but tap your feet to this one, and although the scorchy 303's sound a little painful at times, and the percussion isn't as clear as modern produced records, It simply adds charm and character, making this stand out as another D.O.M. classic.
Thanks again Stay up forever.........;-)
