Reviews
- This review is based on my listening experience using a custom built U-Turn Orbit turntable with a built in Pluto amplifier & a Ortofon 2M Red cartridge paired with Edifier R2000db powered speakers.
I’m not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination but I’m an aspiring one.
The pressing is acceptable. Contemporary releases seem to consistently be lesser quality than audiophile-grade jazz reissues like Blue Note 80th reissues. (Super obvious statement, right?) But comparing it to its peers, this pressing is middle of the road. The most pronounced popping occurred at the end of Brain Matter on Side 2. But I also always assume I didn’t clean the vinyl well enough, so stay tuned. I will update accordingly.
As for the music, this is why I bought the record... Electric! A dynamic, entertaining & thought provoking body of work. Their sound is polished & refined, yet the vocals have this brash, unfiltered edge to it. Beautiful! I highly recommend! - Sounds muddier to me than Half The City, some surface noise but not terrible. Solid enough to enjoy.
- One of the best albums to listen to at any point of the day and in any state of mind. These guys have so much soul! Similar sound, feel and passion in their music as The Marcus King band and Alabama Shakes. It's only a matter of time until these guys blow up big.
- Fantastic album. Very good record quality and both the vinyl and the cover are gorgeously made. Plays well and includes a nice record sleeve.
