Notes

Happy Mondays's third album. Released 05 November 1990.
Produced by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne.
Entered the UK album charts at #4 on 17 November 1990.

First editions (LP, MC, CD) featured a collage of US candy wrappers, designed by Central Station Design. All subsequent editions had the artwork altered and without logos, due to copyright reasons. These second editions have a large yellow "Z" as part of the artwork.

Re-released 1999, 2007 as Collector's Edition with a DVD, and 2015 on limited edition vinyl only (again with altered artwork). The UK newspaper The Guardian offered a CD as a free give-away in 2012.

Why aren't the Matrix / Runouts listed on this pressing?

Dynamic sounding pressing with plenty of slam! My copy is flat, centered, & quiet w/no drama...it sounds terrific and found it on Amazon cheap. I would like to compare it to a UK og, but this sounds so good I do not see a reason to make that investment listening to this.

I got mine from HMV, and it's terrible sounding, each intro has bad crackle/whooshing sounds,
probably from the idiotic spatter pattern.

So good. Buy without hesitation if you’re after a quality pressing of this album and can’t stomach the prices for an OP. Very happy with this.

Fantastic sound for this classic. A lot of bass and great dynamics!!

They fumbled the bag by excluding a lot of remixes considering how much more complete the Bummed Collector's Edition album is. Also, why did they completely miss adding both American videos for "Step On" if they were going to have a DVD of most of the music videos?

Let's hope a new collector's edition of CD reissues come from Cherry Red as they don't skimp out. I'm only cautiously optimistic about such a thing happening due to "Delightful" getting its first CD appearance on a compilation and them released a Hacienda related compilation.

An impressive and inventive album by a band who collaborated with a DJ on the cusp of stadium success and a studio engineer who would both go on to form the template for the ‘superstar DJ’ and all the good and bad that entails.
At the time Oakenfold was emerging from the underground London clubland of Acid House and its culture
He’d partied and DJ’ed and was mates with many of clubland’s greatest talent.
Andy Weatherall, Jimmy Cauty, Carl Cox, Fabio and Grooverider, Trevor Fung, Terry Farley, Factory, Justin Robertson, Alex Patterson, Nicky Holloway, Lisa Loud, Nancy Noise, S Express Mark Moore, Boys Own, Danny Rampling…and of course Shaun and Co who moved in both the London and Manchester club circles gaining a reputation for their hedonistic partying attitude.
At the time Oakenfold was playing out decent Underground music of all descriptions with Deep House, Jacking House to more laid back Balearic and later more darker harder and faster music set the tone.
The Mondays were fresh from the massive success of the great ‘Bummed’ with its thuggish Psychedelic funk glory, it’s piss taking and in jokes perfectly captured a Zeitgeist
And they kept their focus here and cut some sophisticated music that blended indie rock, punk, House music, hip hop, funk, soul, pop into a very cool kaleidoscope of trippy party music.
a trick they failed on their subsequent record.
The production on this is a product of acid house and in particular it throbs with the lysergic ecstasy and shuffling House drums and deep bass of underground London and Mancunian Clubland of that time
It is a snapshot into a specific and fleeting time and place.
A place of youthful possibilities, love of music, love of dancing’ love of losing oneself in a moment, with mates, family or on your own off your gourd in the middle of.a sweaty dance floor with a fookin’ loud sound system a strobe and a couple of lights.
This is as good an album as you’ll ever hear and still sounds fresh today.
Of course I’ve got the withdrawn sleeve!! :/

First, I’d encourage anyone interested in buying this version to check their local HMV store, if possible, before paying much inflated prices on here. I picked my copy up from Aberdeen HMV today (30/06/22) as there were still quite a few available. The vinyl is visually fantastic. In terms of audio, it's a bit noisy in the quiet parts. However, it's tolerable.

Limited to 1000 copies, I wasn't expecting it to sound great. But it's fantastic, plenty of the funky bass lines I remember from the original. Shaun's vocals are lifted high in space and really gives the album a trippy feel about it. Will be in rotation for quite a while..
