Avrigus – The Secret Kingdom

To me, this band is hands down the best Doom Metal band to come along since Black Sabbath (if you consider them D.M.), Trouble, Witchfinder General, and Candlemass. This album invokes so many emotions for me. At times, this album is soooo depressing that I find myself almost wanting to turn it off. But, at the same time, I find myself intrigued and want to keep listening because the bands sound is SO damn grand, ambient, dark, symphonic, and HIGHLY unique! Every time I listen to this album, it puts a lump in my throat. I'm not sure why. Maybe, it's because the sound of this album reminds me of music that would be played during a funeral procession. Regardless, I REALLY like this album, and this band! They put such a unique spin on Doom Metal! These musicians are true innovators in the Doom Metal genre! It's refreshing when a band comes along and pushes the boundary so much of a particular genre, by not being afraid to experiment, caring what other musicians think of what they are doing, be themselves, and truly embrace what it means to be an artist. If you like doom metal, ambient, darkwave, and even symphonic music. Then, do yourself a favor and check this band out if you haven't already! The amazing thing to me about this bands sound is that it is so damn BIG! And yet, there are only 2 members in the band!!! AMAZING album, AMAZING band!
