Elvis Presley – Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old)

Both the record and cover feel very cheap. The cover very easily peels and the record is a flexible press. The record looks great but since it weighs almost nothing and has the consistency of silly putty it is extremely crackly. The cover itself is too small for any inner sleeve other than the original (company) one which in my instance is completely torn open, so good luck trying to put the record inside an anti-static sleeve. Although it has somewhat good sound, I would never recommend this to anyone.

If you were to ask someone who had a casual knowledge of Elvis’ music whether or not he ever released a concept album, they might be surprised at the answer. However one could make the argument that Elvis was the concept album king, if you consider all of his soundtrack LPs as such. For the sake of not comparing those often mediocre offerings to his 1971 masterpiece, ‘Elvis Country’, let’s just say that the latter seemed to fit many of the trappings of other notable themed records. You also might be in the right if you say ‘Elvis Country’ isn’t really a concept album as he always filled his LPs with a plethora of styles including of course classic country, I mean he was a country boy at heart. The present album is all country but even within the genre, the songs represent a broad palette of traditional music including country blues. Having one song bridge all the other songs together, as “I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago” definitely helps define the record as thematic. In the end it doesn’t really matter because what does matter is ‘Elvis Country’ is probably his last great studio album. Recording during June 1970, in a flurry of creative activity and under the guidance of Felton Jarvis, who was now working exclusively for Elvis, this LP contained most of the standouts from those excellent studio sessions. Great version of “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” here as well as “Faded Love” and “I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water” which could be considered country rock or hard country blues. Balladry is represented by “I Really Don’t Want to Know” and “There Goes My Everything” which were also both sides of the single released around the same time as the parent LP. “Tomorrow Never Comes” is very anthemic as well as “Make the World Go Away”. To steal a title from an earlier compilation, there really is Elvis for everyone here. Some people don’t like how “Born” plays between all the songs but I dig it and I have the full song on another album so not a big deal. ‘Elvis Country’ seemed to continue the winning streak the King had been on since the NBC Special and was a triumphant statement of this artist’s creativity as he settled into his third decade as the biggest star on the planet. Spread your tiny wings and fly away…

Wow, just picked up this album and played it for the first time. I have never heard of portions of a song being sprinkled throughout an album!!! Very annoying, but very interesting as well? I am befuddled. I wonder whose decision it was and what kind of process there was to 1) have this idea at all and 2) get it approved to production.
Really great album, you can find the "complete" version of "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago" on the ELVIS NOW album, released about a year after this one.

Disco molto piacevole da,ascoltare. Il sound è naturalmente country, ma la voce di Elvis rende il tutto mondiale.

Great album, with every style of country-rock music Elvis excelled at. And ol' E nails every tune. Even an Anne Murray song! Great mastering with nice big stereo sound.

Quite a nice pressing from Indianapolis! Great range, depth, separation and musicality all the way, very impressed with this 50 year old vinyl ! Get it if you're a fan, and just relax and enjoy the beautiful music!
