      What an extraordinary album! The earlier albums by Epica are all quite good, but with this one they really mature. It's just seamless how the orchestral elements are woven into the metal elements. My only complaint is that it sometimes shows in the lyrics that Mark Jansen is not a native speaker of English. But the overall theme of the album is really powerful, too, and many of the songs here, especially "Chasing the Dragon", "Sancta Terra", and "The Divine Conspiracy" are classics.

      As for the pressing, it's very good. It's quiet, and the vinyl looks pristine.

      I have recorded it but not yet looked at the waveform, but it does not sound terribly compressed. My sense is that the vinyl really is mastered quite differently from the CD release (and the streaming versions). I'll post an update once I know more.
