About the sound of the vinyl, this UK Lynetone original press sounds very good, tonal balance are great. Except one thing - I’ve bought two copies of this pressing this year, both copies are off centred, most noticeable on side A. Spindle hole is quite large though, more oval than round, so I can somehow compensate, but A4 “From Temptation to You” sounds weird in pitch going up and down. Are there any good centres copies of this pressing out there?- This is shit! Really horrible pressing, cheap record but still a waste of money

This album is a bit of a departure from the Gun Club material, like Sex Beat or She's Like Heroin To Me, that probably draws most fans into the Jeffrey Lee Pierce discography. It's a much more light hearted, pop-oriented effort than Fire Of Love or The Las Vegas Story, and it oozes that mid 1980's absurdist humor.
The reverb on the tracks is that snappy, gated variety, rather than the swampy, murky kind, and the sound is much brighter and more upbeat all around.
Wildweed has a nice flow to it from beginning to end, and it's just long enough (or short enough) that you will be tempted to listen to the whole thing all the way through once you've gotten started.
It starts off with a trio of songs in Love & Desperation, Sex Killer and Cleopatra Dreams On that were probably among the most radio friendly things Pierce had written up to that point.
The sprawling, expansive piano-and-guitar ballad, From Temptation To You, sounds like Jeffrey Lee's answer to Lou Reed's Pale Blue Eyes.
The second half of the album cranks up the bawdiness a bit with tracks like the rockabilly flavored Hey Juana, the lightweight, glossy funk of Love Circus, and the dark rumination of The Midnight Promise.
It ends with some spoken word gibberish that sounds like Pierce trying to cop his best William S. Burroughs impression.
All in all, this album is well worth a listen for Gun Club fans looking to hear the other side of Jeffrey Lee Pierce's songwriting genius.
