Holy shit, even crackling like a CAMPFIRE my copy sounds amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever need anything else.- Ok Sab fans buckle up for what I'm about to tell you.
The '73 Japan Press, and the '75 repress absolutely beats the first UK
This is my favorite Sabbath album and I have 6 different pressings including 2 UK first press and the U.S. first press.
But a Sab vinyl collector told me to check out these Japan pressings, said they would make me smile.
Well more like stunned. More dynamic, More detail, The cymbals are shimmering, the bottom end huge, and the whole soundstage is just larger and there's depth now. - Fantastic sounding press!
This might be the best press of this album out there and I've heard them all.
Same metal works as the '73 press.
WWA 005A.
WWA 005B - This is the best sounding SBS that I have heard out of: Bellman, 1980 Japan, '82 NEMS UK, Japan '73 Promo, and US promo. I had a 1st UK but it had issues.
This German Spaceship is very well balanced while having great clarity with free/open mids, just right and accurate highs as well as lows/bass and is fully engaging.
It is the one to beat IMO but do hope KG gets ahold of this one for RHF. - My .02 for the copies I own:
Loudspeakers, (heaphones rankings in parenthesis)
1st German Spaceship (1st)
2nd: Bellman (4th)
3rd: '82 NEMS (2nd)
4th: Japan Promo (5th)
5th: 1980 Japan (close 3rd)
6th US Promo
The Bellman has the most bass and oooph out of all of those which I really like. The mids aren't as much there (open/free/unveiled) as the Spacehip, '82 NEMS or the '80 Japan but still very good. It rocks but the Spacehip is the one to beat IMO. Also, with the Bellman, it sounded like the levels were pushed in Spiral Architect which someone below also mentions. But, I'm "only" keeping 3 copies (maybe 4) and will be keeping the Bellman for sure.
I did have a 1st UK but it had issues and never got around to getting a different one. The '82 NEMS sounds really good with fantastic mids but can sound slightly tinny due to a lack of mid-bass and lower mids. Not too bad but noticable. The 1980 Japan sounds better in the headphones than the loudspeakers. Really good in the headphones - simiar to the '82 but also sounds a bit tinny and even more so in the loudspeakers.
I'm keeping the Spaceship, Bellman, '82 NEMS and for now the 1980 Japan, but may sell that one.
As always, IMO YMMV - I love these Aussie picture disc '91 reissues but they all sound pretty shit. I'm comparing to a '96 Japanese reissue which sounds much more full bodied and not as hollow.
- I have a varient of this....a new one I believe. I will double check and add matrix details to listing. If someone thinks it belongs somewhere else let me know.
Side A: WWA 005 2(crossed out) 1v//2▽420 0 12 8
Side B: WWA 005 2v//2▽420 0 12 4
Media is VG+ (nothing major just a few paper scuffs and very light lines)
Sleeve is Mint- (No issues at all for its age)
I don't believe I've ever seen this variant anywhere. referencing Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (LP, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Unofficial Release, Stereo, Yellow) 6366 101
mine is red as well. its the best match. cheers- Not bad, not bad at all... Referece WWA UK firstpress. Tonal slightly reserved but very good soundstage.
After recording directly the mesure of dynamics has the same amount (RMS13,6) as original.
Quality of cover is excellent!
Worth every cent.
