- Excellent music, pressing is quite good on this one. No noise, nice and flat. As usual with DG, the sound quality isn't as good as it could be, but it's also not bad by any means (and I've heard some bad masterings on DG vinyl). Very glad this got an improved repressing!
- I have both pressings. My new clear pressing is better than the original vinyl release but still contains occasional clicks and pops that are noticeable in quiet passages. The great thing is my copy doesn’t have any egregious distortion that was prominent in the loud passages of the previous pressing. Overall, I’m pleased to finally have an enjoyable copy of this superb performance.

I cleaned it twice and still a bunch of noise - and some sort of constant flutter or pulse on the quiet parts. Really a shame it's so bad a pressing.- Edited 17 days agoOK, so I've got this repress on clear vinyl. I don't have the original pressing, but If the comments below are representative of the whole run, it was bad... I was a bit hesitant with this purchase, but I'm so obsessed with Ólafsson's incredible performance that this title falls into my „must have” category.
My copy does not sound perfect, but certainly not as disastrous as in previous comments on the OG pressing. I can't say it sounds crystal clear, but is definitely not drowned in surface noise.
I guess the best thing Deutsche Grammophon could do with this release is to provide WAV downloads with each copy. And I'm starting to realise that CDs and high-res audio files are THE formats for classical music, end of story. Some genres, especially electronic music, can benefit from analogue dirt/grit/imperfections. I can't see how classical music can. referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
Concur with everyone who states that this pressing is unlistenable - I eventually gave my copy away due to the shocking amount of noise. Does anyone know if Deutsche Grammophon has improved their quality in more recent years? I'd love to pick up Olafsson's From Afar album but if it's as bad as this it would be a waste! His beautiful interpretations deserve so much better than this.referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
What can be said is that this should not have been the edition that was deemed worthy of a magnificent performance. It's just a piano sound balanced with background noise, that's all.referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
And again a really bad pressing, released by Deutsche Grammophon. Far too much surface noise for this beautiful music.
DG already failed with the pressings of "The Wind" by Balmorhea, "Playground In A Lake" by Clark, "Reprise" (grey vinyl) by Moby, "Inner Symphonies" (red vinyl) by Hania Rani & Dobrawa Czocher, "Reflections" (clear vinyl) by Víkingur Ólafsson, "The Turning Year" by Roger Eno and "Biala Flaga" by Hania Rani & Dobrawa Czocher".
Where's the quality control?referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
The vinyl pressing is terrible—a shame because Ólaffson’s recording is fantastic. I don't think the vinyl was cooled properly, because there is constant noise and visible evidence of non-fill and stitching. Louder passages suffer from distortion. Disc 2 Side 2 is pressed off centre and causes pitch fluctuation.
I immediately notified Deutsche Grammaphon of the manufacturing faults users seem to be reporting, although they expressed no interest in the quality of their pressings. The CD is a better listening experience.referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
Agree with all comments below. The album is fantastic, the performance by Olafsson is breathtaking and adds a superior level of emotion to the music of Philipp Glass. But the vinyl is a noisy mess, a terrible disappointment. Best version for me are the digital files in 96/24 : a truly wonderful experience.referencing Piano Works (2×LP, Stereo, 180g) 479 7258
very noisy, very irritating. Gave up after first listening. Now resting permanent shelf material. Avoid at all cost. I also have the CD and the recording is subpar.
