- This mix imo is so underrated, a bit like the DJ. I was drawn into dance music by this dj after his post underworld set at t in the park in 1999, I was dragged along to that, but it changed my whole outlook on music, and life. I agree, Singapore is so good also, particularly CD2, from circulations magenta, to Alan's lifetimes, to Darren's brilliant take on the man with the red face. Bogata is very good also. I've seen Darren many times, met him a few times, and he's a genuinely nice guy. His place is dance music is cemented, he was instrumental in taking Underworld to greatness. Darren Emerson, Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, movers, shakers, and icons
- This is by far the best Global Underground. There has never been another one with so many great tracks on it. And strangely enough his Global Underground Singapore is probably my second favorite one. Obviously the ones you like the best are the ones by the DJ's who have the taste that is most similar to your own. Too many Global Undergrounds are either too trance-y for me or else the Progressive house tracks that they favor are kind of mediocre. What kind of house tracks that Darren Emerson likes to use are exactly the kind I like most. Nice hard beats, but not particularly dark. And this CD is just about the best example of that that I can think of.
- Edited 13 years agoThere is the important disclaimer to be attached to this release. It is house music. If you were a fan of Tenaglia's Athens or London, then this release will be right down your alley. But if you're a trance purist, then obviously stay away.
I have an open mind, and I enjoyed this release. CD1 is the better of the two discs, especially since CD2 gets a bit too flippant towards the end. There are many house and techno classics scattered among the two discs, and when you see "French Kiss" you know it can't be too bad.
Not my favorite Global Underground - like many of you, I listen to Global Underground for the trance and progressive - but its mixed well and is a credible detour in the series. - Edited 13 years agoI still love this mix. Recently re-listened to this mix this year on a road trip and it still rocked. The track selection and mixes are brilliant, all the tracks just feed off each other.
Nowadays most everything is mixed on laptop with Ableton or Traktor and just comes out sounding so generic. There's no soul, just a solid block of electronic music.. Listening to this album again, you can feel the human effort put into it. Given the time period it had to have been mixed good old vinyl, probably in one take. - This is the RARE 2000 release from Darren Emerson titled, "Global Underground - Uruguay."
