Really 2019 is coming remix this without the digital explosive crap on certain songs. I understood the point in 1999 but just don't mix any instrument in the RED please and take those digital tics out of there. 20 th anniversary of The Soft Bulletin REMIXED DONE RIGHT.

This was a real highlight back in 1999. The millenium loomed, the most forward facing music by the back end of the
90s was electric. After a promising start there wasn't much guitar-based music that was psychedelic, experimental, rough-edged, punk influenced. Did anyone mention drugs?
This was the album they'd really threatened to make, but it also signalled a big change. Shows had a backing track and things had shifted, only really great songs and a vision carried them through. Emerging out of the carnage of Zaireeka and 5 years since Clouds Taste Metallic, this was peak Flaming Lips. For fans who had got on board earlier (Hit to Death in the Future Head for me) it was a different band, a day dawning after tripping all night. All ends have a beginning and this was theirs. (IMHO)

You can't go wrong with this excellent reissue. The mix of 'Buggin' on this LP differs from the CD version, and the track 'Slow Motion', is not even on the original CD. Ive always loved the sound of the original CD, but I'm starting to like the feel of this vinyl re-issue.

Just go with this pressing. The HDCD is badly mastered and hard to listen to. This version is SO much better. There's none of that awful digital distortion that pulls you out of the music, and a lot of these tracks seem like flat out different mixes. Everything is much more stripped back. I was thinking about selling my HDCD copy, but they're so different, that I might end up keeping it just to compare and contrast.

This is an outstanding vinyl pressing from Pallas in Germany; my copy is flat and dead quiet. I only wish the gatefold sleeve were even half as good. Mine came out of the shrink wrap with major corner bends, and the whole thing just feels too flimsy for such an otherwise premium release. Ah well, the recording is what matters, and to my ears it is presented flawlessly here.

It's worth noting that "Race For The Prize" and "Buggin'" are included in their original mixes, rather than the remixes that appeared on the CD. If, like me, you played your 1999 CD to death, you may experience a moment of shock when the drums don't quite kick in on "Buggin'". (I find myself siding with the corporate goons over at Warner Bros. on that one, but only because I love the sound of Steven's drums so much.)

My copy has a white circular sticker on the back that reads "PROMOTIONAL COPY ONLY NOT FOR RESALE". Does anyone else have this?

The music on this albums is incredible. It's an absolute trip with some very catchy psychedelic pop and it incorporates some interesting progressive elements as well. In terms of the Master, just buy the LP. This album isn't worthy of being on HDCD. It's too loud, distorted and compressed, just don't buy the HDCD version of this album. the standard redbook CD version of "At War With the Mystics," sounds more detailed, dynamic and clean than the HDCD copy of Soft Bulletin. (Mystics is still quite compressed, just not as badly as this one).
