The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

This is not an exaggeration to say you have not heard Yoshimi until you’ve heard one of these original red copies. I have owned the 2011 remaster as well as the most recent 2023 anniversary box set version, and while they’re both great in their own right, this original copy smokes them in every single way. It’s undeniably one of the best sounding records I own, the dynamics are so damn impressive it feels like listening to the master tape. Every single time I spin this record I’m picking up new things in the mix, which is seriously absurd considering the amount of times I’ve listened to this masterpiece front to back.
What do you get when you take an already incredibly mixed and mastered, genius piece of music and press it on one glorious, cherry red piece of wax? The only copy of Yoshimi battles the pink robots you will ever need to own.

To echo the other reviewers, this is insanely awesome! Damn, nice depth and vibration to the snare balanced with punchy kick drum, perfectly separated as the synth effects move within the soundstage. My CD has become obsolete.

More poor disc authoring and functionality on this one. The TRACKLIST option in the menu only works for the Atmos mix - not the others. You can select the other mixes in the menu and it will instantly play the album in that mix, but the TRACKLIST from the menu will force you back into Atmos.

I don't think anyone actually tests these

I really like this box set. It’s got most of the songs from the singles and I have a much greater appreciation for the studio album after listening to the demos, alternates, and live versions. The variation keeps the music fresh. Packaging is good, the vinyl is quiet and well mastered by the legend Chris Bellman. One of the discs had a slight warp but nothing to get worked up about.

I’ve heard this album so many times through the years, on so many different systems and formats. There are things happening on these recordings that I’ve never heard until now. If you ever want to sell someone on the difference between a well-pressed vinyl record and an overly compressed mp3, this is as good a candidate as any. Oh and the pressing is immaculate. Red translucent made me a little nervous but it sounds incredibly quiet. Amazing

Stunning seperation on the Blu-ray, takes this great album to another level. Will show you what your system is capable of and leaves you with no doubt as to what multichannel actually means. Highly recommended.

Very Immersive mix with use of all the speakers. This is a great disc to demo what your Atmos system can sound like. Some great songs to enjoy. Definite upgrade from 5.1 version.

Best I’ve heard this album! Although the 5.1 DVD is amazing too! This is definitely better than the 24bit DVD stereo though. Hope this helps!

I really enjoy the 5.1 surround mix. Furthermore, it's easier on your ears than the stereo mix, if that matters to you.
