When I first started going to high school I was Radio Raheem-ing it bumping " I Rep That West" on this dollar store clock radio. The single was in constant rotation, but I more so identified with "Drink the Kool-Aid" , a record I got familiar with when it was spun on The Wake Up Show. So to an extent Power 106 LA FM broke "I Am The West For Me". And the album is a collection of songs that feature the positions evident on both singles (that of one disgruntled with the current state of hip-hop, but also comfortable with a position with the other legends on the real Mt. Rushmore) except not to an extremity that doesn't make the LP a bi-polar mess.

Such a descent for the best rapper of all time. It has been clear for some time music takes a back seat to Cube's acting career. You can't blame him as that's where the money is, but I would prefer to have one good album every decade than the quality that has been put out starting with varying quality of Laugh Now Cry Later and since. Since Laugh Now there have been great verses but they are sparse, buried in second class instrumentals. I can't find myself to delete most of the songs on this album as there are some solid verses scattered about. In this album Ice Cube's two children appear (Doughboy & OMG). It's more than fair to say they have no talent inherited and their efforts here are lyrical and performance embarrassments. Worse yet is that this album continues a descent in quality, we will never have the old Cube back.
