Various – No Alternative

Out of all the LPs I have ever owned, this (and the crow) will never leave my collection. I absolutely love this one and on vinyl, it's even better.

Nearly thirty years (!) after its original release, this is still a great snapshot of that strange and fleeting period of early '90s U.S. alt-rock when major labels were careening around in the wake of Nirvana's mega-success, desperately signing up anything with a plaid shirt, goatee beard, or nose piercing (preferably all three). Needless to say, it's a ridiculously mixed bag and nobody is going to like all of it, but the good outweighs the bad and most of these tracks are of surprisingly high quality considering they were essentially cast-offs - and a handful of them are outstanding. Inevitably there are a few songs here that I could happily've lived without, and I defy anybody to listen to Soul Asylum's five minutes of aural torture more than once, but there's bound to be at least one act on here that you've never heard before who'll pique your interest.

The Sonic Youth and Jonathan Richman tracks were not included on the original CD release. They should have been, in replacement of the awful Barbara Manning song and sub-par Tupelo cover. The latter two tracks keep No Alternative from being perfect.

Do Sarah Mclachlan fans realise that this version of HOLD ON (Track 10 is different than what is available on the CD single of Hold On)?

My copy has the ARCD 8737 and chrome ring on the CD itself but has the 'girl cover'. New submission needed?

Track D6 is a bonus, unlisted track. Yes as I was pleasantly surprised it was Nirvana's, 'Verse, Chorus, Verse' song that closes this album.

I thought this version, with the boy, did NOT have Verse Chorus Verse... Does it, anyone who owns it?

I've seen a version of this LP that is NOT stamped with a number on the back and the SEL# on the sticker ends with "S2" instead of "S1". The sticker also omits the wording about "individually numbered jackets". Did they release a 2nd pressing of this after Record Store Day 2013?

Love 80% of the tunes on this compilation. However, I would buy it alone for the Bob Mould song, "Can't Fight It".

I would kill to have the T-shirt that came with this when you ordered it off the television back in 1993. I dont know if it's possible to put that as it's own entry, but it would nice to have a place where they were listed because they are impossible to find mentioned anywhere!!
