Tantalize, in which Cosey attempts her best Kim Wilde imitation.

Some of this is synth-pop... at very least Talk To Me and Tantalize.

Of the original act formerly known as Chris and Cosey (or CTI, for Creative Technology Institute, also Conspiracy International, for some reason) Songs of Love and Lust was def the very best C&C album in which Cosey sings on just about every track, also, their previous LP, Trance, I would indicate as probably being their best (early, initial) instrumental album, though making that claim may be going too far, as they consistenly released some very, exceptionally interesting, hallucinatory, original and disturbing multi-purpose elecronic dance music throughout the early to mid 1980s. Previously, C&C had released a fantastic solo effort (practically a socioanthropolitic thesis and personal diatribe on modern sexuality ans sexual taboos and practices) by Cosey that was titled `Time to Tell,' a very mellow, meditative (almost) 30 minutes worth of witchy, trancedental minimalist droning (similar in feel to Goblin's creepy old world music box, diabolical and influential bit of prog-rock expressionism film music - the renowned theme to Dario Argento's Suspiria) in which she speaks about her experiences and personal philosophy regarding her modeling extensively for several porno magazines, engaging in hardcore sex for adult films and dancing live as a striptease artiste and all of the dialogue in Time to Tell was taken directly from a journal she kept in which she chronicled and researched men's sexuality in response to sex workers, many elements of female sexuality and women's rights to an equal independence of autonomy to freely experiment and openly engage in such works and how men and women both need to come to a clearer, more honest conversation, speaking candidly about their kinks, turn on's, fetishes and sincere sexual drives with one another without prejudice, in so that they might come to a much better understanding and mutual respect for one another's needs and desires with regard to their personal sex fantasies as well as more taboo realities. A great deal of the lyrical content on this album stems from the same wellspring of more lurid erotic deviance and fetishistic content than appears with as great of frequency on any of their later recordings, as it does here, and does it so very admirably to boot!! A real unsung classic of the 1980s underground DIY electronic dance genre.

my copy has some distortions on "Lament", otherwise it sounds and looks fine.

Great album. The remaster is clear and loud, but bright to the point of harshness. Suits the music, at least.

For me "Walking Through Heaven" is one of the highlights, together with "Talk To Me", "Love Cuts" and "Driving Blind". Four out of 9 cuts exuberates brilliance, the rest are anything but mediocre -- it's just that good. Terrific LP!

Industrial / Experimental / Electro / Nu-Wave crossover. The 2 standout tracks here for me are "Love Cuts", an epic and drawn out dark and twisted song about addiction to physical pain (lyrics - "Cuts like a knife / cut me with your knife"), and "Driving blind", a slow electronic beat again with the very distinctive vocal of Cosey Fanni Tooti! You could almost call them the orignal Adult., as the electro and female monotone vocal are very similar. This is great, fairly slow and laid back electro beats with a nu-wave punk feel and dark lyrics. A lovely LP.
