Anne Dudley And Jaz Coleman – Songs From The Victorious City

A superior production and an unusual collision of talents provides for some adventurous music, to be sure.

Ok so it isn’t Killing Joke or Art Of Noise but why so little love for what is a perfectly good soundtrack type recording?

A collaboration between Anne Dudley and Jaz Coleman - at the time probably best known for The Art of Noise and Killing Joke, respectively, but who have both gone on to have distinguished careers as composers - this album is something special. I suppose the nearest equivalent (that I've heard) would be Peter Gabriel's "Passion": ambient, evocative, and multi-layered, featuring a variety of ethnic musicians playing some highly unusual (to Western ears) ethnic instruments. Close your eyes, and be transported to mystic Egypt. Magical stuff.

This is brilliant music! Come with more of this kind! One can hear camels riding in the desert, different melodies far from this worldly, plastic-fantastic noise of the western world. It has something very original about it. I wonder if this music is composed by one man, or if the group developed it together, and if the rhythm for example, origins from within beduin societies?
