Home Counties is Saint Etienne's ninth studio album, recorded in the summer and autumn of 2016.
Copies pre-ordered from the artist's webstore came with a 12"x12" print of the artwork and a sheet of stickers.
A bundle including all 3 formats (2 x LP, CD and cassette) was offered for pre-order; as an exclusive bonus the print was signed by all three members of the band, Sarah, Bob and Pete.
A note from the band accompanied the announcement of its release:
Sarah Cracknell says: “We had so much fun writing for this album, drawing influence from our teenage years growing up in the home counties. Bob, Pete and I led almost parallel lives while I was in Windsor and they were in Surrey, developing our passion for music and London. Shawn Lee was a joy to work with, he’s a wonderful multi-instrumentalist who seemed to have some kind of telepathy with us and translated our ideas perfectly. The record is quite varied in styles and brings together a little something from all our past albums whilst sounding completely new.”
Bob Stanley says: “Suburbia’s anonymity is exactly why it’s a source of inspiration. They said it couldn’t happen here — and it didn’t.”
Whilst Pete added: “We took a ride and ran with the dogs.”
[this is a direct quotation of the lyrics from Pet Shop Boys' "Suburbia": 'let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight in suburbia']

Just got a copy of this and the date given is 3-3-17, not 7-3-17 as is listed above. Is the above 7-3-17 correct or an error? Anyone?- Saint Etienne continue to thrill. Nine albums in and still plenty of ideas and a balance between the shimmery pop brilliance of 'Dive' or 'Out Of My Mind' to the darkly creeping 'Sweet Arcadia'. Lucky enough I was to see them on this tour, and with a full band in tow. This album, didn't immediately hit me, but grows by the day, to me the sign of something special, bitter in the beginning and sweet in the end. Much love to Sarah, Pete and Bob...
