Li'l Louis* – Frequency / How I Feel

"How I Feel" is lovely, melancholic proto-Ambient House. Yet more cold and abstract than Larry Heard's similar early experiments.

Pleased to announce that this unofficial (judging by the photo-copy art, although it wouldn't surprise me if this was put out by the label) re-issue plays loud & is in fact an excellent pressing. I came across one a few years back & have kept it on sound quality alone...

The first "bleep and bass" tune? ...have a listen to Unique 3's The Theme and you will understand how influential, insane this track must have sounded a couple years earlier, Farley or Ron Hardy mixing it in with old dusties from less than a decade before that. Crazy to think how much had changed musically from 1977 to 1987. This record, though, contains as Reyes187 implies one of the best minimal house tracks ever produced. Simple, DEEP as DEEP can be, and totally hypnotizing. I have lost it on dance floors to "How I Feel", closing my eyes and getting completely engulfed in a frenzied trance state. Slight variations keep it fresh but it just sucks you in! Basically, what minimal house and techno were invented for, I'd say. Indeed, a warm, beautiful, hypnotic, emotional minimal masterpiece.

"How I feel" is a techno soul classic. Great groove, crashing snare rolls, distorted keys that sound like a cosmic steel band - yeah!

When it comes to the history of electronic music some people always tend to rant about the same Detroit releases and the way they inspired people. Everybody knows that by now, it's all part of common knowledge as a matter of speaking. But if you are a discerning music lover, you just know that there are some blanks to be filled in that history.

This true '87 Chicago classic seems to be a bit overlooked in my opinion. 'Frequency' blows your mind and gets the usual merits, but 'How I Feel' always seems to be the forgotten B-side. Incredible house track: Lil' Louis managed to put some real emotion in this ultra charming sensual cut. It's as if he succeeded to put what he felt on this record. Two decades later it still sounds not-dated and amazingly fresh. 'How I Feel' still outdoes 99,99% of the records that are released nowadays. Deep, warm, soulful, timeless.

"Frequency" is one of these early house tracks which became a really great classic. This sound was absolutely crazy at this time.

This was a ground-breaking track in Chicago for the early house music industry. I remember waiting in line for hours and paying up to $15 to get into a Lil' Louis party just to hear it!!! This was and always will be an EARLY HOUSE CLASSIC"!!!
