Secret Knowledge update their hit SUGAR DADDY, with decidedly mixed results. Their '96 revision heads in a progressive house direction, losing much of the deepness and sexiness from the original in favor of club energy (though with a new melodic synth line and scatting from Wonder are interesting additions). The "Disco Eruption Mix" indeed has some disco string flourishes, and the "Liberator Stay Up Forever Mix" goes for hard-house, bumping up the BPMs and the acid lines considerably. And luckily Mr. Needs gets a chance to redeem himself with the thick "Voodoo Acid Mix." But this is a case of leaving well enough alone. referencing Sugar Daddy (CD, Maxi-Single) MFS 7048-3
Secret Knowledge's hit SUGAR DADDY gets a complement of remixes here. Paul van Dyk and Johnny Klimek get two mixes, with the "Trip to the Moon Remix" going for the trance blips, and their "Trip Across the Moon Remix" going for a spacier feel. Meanwhile, Ashley Beedle and David Holmes, as the Disco Evangelists, go deep and steady for their "Out of Our Brains on the 5:15" mix. Kris Needs also gives himself two mixes: the "Blue" mix adds an appropriately bluesy synth and double bass to accompany the vocals, taking it out of club territory and into a smoky lounge, but the "Sugar Caned" mix brings it right back onto the floor, harder and more trancey than the original. Plenty of sugar to rot your teeth here.referencing Sugar Daddy (12", 33 ⅓ RPM) PT007
So this is a house track? That's news to me, I thought it was trance. Doesn't matter, its a classic for a reason.
