Philip Corner – Collaborations With Friends & Electronics

An excellent set of recordings unfortunately difficult to find.The beautifully slow introduction and subtle electronics of 'Break' are perhaps the highlights for me. The jazz inflections of the brass are more or less tasteful and add narrative to the otherwise slowly stirring analogue electronic beds. The work particularly shines when the high flourishes of the brass float into the tonal range of the electronics. The tape effects become more apparent towards the end of the track, but for a few golden minutes in the middle, it is mysteriously difficult to tell just what is happening to the instrument.
