Mike Rutherford – Smallcreep's Day

What a pity… a great album, now again on CD, but without any information like who are the musicians involved, the lyrics…

Disappointment, once again. A simple repress, sadly not taken from the Japanese pressed CD, so it still has tape dropouts and slightly muddier sound. A plain reissue, nothing special.

There is a new reissue by Music on CD which hasn't been added yet.

Does anyone know why the sides are reversed on the U.S. version? (The title track suite is side B, not A)

Also, my god does this album drag. Would've been much better around 35 min, not 50+. The best (or worst) example of this is the closing track to the suite. They could've easily closed out the suite with 1 or 2 minutes of the final movement but no, it keeps going on...and on...and on... I don't dislike the singer, but I don't want to hear him this much or this prominently.

This is a hugely underrated album, a really enjoyable listen.

Not only fans have begged for this to be re-released, remastered and given the treatment it's always deserved, so do various record labels such as Cherry Red/Esoteric. I've read through numerous sources of Mike himself not wanting to do it - maybe due to money, time or popularity. It's in dire need of a remaster - for starters, Simon Philips himself quoted that he was unhappy with the final mix once the album was finished and the only CD pressing (which now fetches stupid money and resorts you to illegal downloading) has many issues and tape drop-outs (unless you get the re-ordered US Passport CD or the even better sounding Japanese release). A two-CD re-release with the b-side: Compression and a wealth of sessions, demos and outtakes alongside a chunky little booklet with art from Hipgnosis would be wonderful. Someone, please sort this out before we all die!

this USA pressing has an added modulated carrier signal between 23K and 27K which takes all that spectrum.

When will this album be given the proper reissue? Something similar to what Tony Banks did with "Still" and "A Curious Feeling" or XTC has done with most of their catalog - a 2 disc set with Disc 1 a properly remastered album and any single edits/b-sides. Disc 2 - a DVD/BluRay with the content from Disc 1 in 5.1, and any demos, live songs, and video content to round out the package. An instrumental mix of the album would be pretty cool too. It's somewhat surprising to me that more Genesis fans aren't asking for this seeing as how Ant Phillips features so prominently on the album with Mike. I imagine the artist gets a say in the matter too, and perhaps therein lies the block.
