The sound is amazing on this, very present and crisp. Yes, the upright bass is low in the mix, but that's the mix... Art's kick drum sounds perfect, with just enough oopmh, so it's not as if low frequencies were rolled of during mastering. Kevin Gray did the best that could be done with this mix.

I buy a new copy by 15€... 😀 Great sound, near, dynamic...Griffin is in my room.... .Yes, Blakey is back in the soundstage, and? And great and fantastic music. Agree, yes, some pops and clikcs, but I can clean it. A pleasure

DeBrest is barely audible on Purple Shades solo and not anywhere else.

Garbage sounds like it was recorded in a toilet. They should have a disclaimer for producing shit like this

There are bad pressings and there are dirty pressings. The Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series reissue of Moanin' is a bad pressing, with scads of distortion on Lee Morgan's trumpet. This is a dirty pressing. Give it two or three wet cleanings before you listen, and the result is a superb listening experience of a great mono mastering. I have never heard Monk so well integrated into the Messengers group sound on prior versions of this I've owned. I suspect the somewhat quieter mix of Blakey's drums on this mastering is to serve the end of achieving that unified group sound. Considering I was able to grab this for about $30 sealed, with a second LP of outtakes and a nice booklet, I am happy as a clam.

Full of clicks and pops. Even after sonic clean. Shame because the music is brilliant.

Great album and reissue. Vinyl is flat and quiet. Mastering is great for early stereo recording. Art Blakey and band mostly on the left channel and Thelonious Monk in the right channel. Many comment on lack of bass, but it’s there, not overbearing and mixes great with the drums in the background. The way this is mixed it focuses on the soloists and the rhythm section is secondary. Overall a very pleasing listening experience.

Wish I had read reviews prior to my purchase... a great album, but this version truly lacks that bass punch. Very bright, almost like a Japanese pressing. A bit disappointing

Excellent pressing, definitely worth it.
My copy is identical but with SACEM on the label, probably meant for the french market.
