Notes
This is Thelonious Monk's second album for Columbia Records, planned to be completed over three consecutive afternoons, from February 25 to 27, 1963 at Columbia's 30th Street Studio, N.Y. Session break-down:
25 Feb. - Tea For Two (Rouse out)
26 Feb. - Think Of One
27 Feb. - Tea For Two (Rouse out), Criss Cross, Eronel, Don't Blame Me (piano solo)
An additional session necessary to fill up the album on March 29 yielded Pannonica and Crepuscule With Nellie, but Pannonica was not used for this album and only added to the first reissues on CD in 1993. Still too meagre for a full album, two compositions recorded during the first sessions for Columbia in November 1962 were added to finally complete this album, viz. Hackensack and Rhythm-a-ning.

While many of the Pure Pleasure pressings are directly from the analogue tapes, this one is from the hi-res DSD source mastered in UK from the analogue tapes which doesn't take away any of the 'analogue' experience whatsoever. I am absolutely thrilled I managed to find this for $20 as I've been after a good sounding pressing of this album for a long time. Big thumbs up!referencing Criss-Cross (LP, Album, Stereo) SBPG 62173
I have a UK copy I can’t see listed anywhere , the flip back sleeve is different in places however it’s still a Garrod & Lofthouse- In my view this record is equal to or betters Monk’s Dream as far as the tunes. Great sounding remaster!

Sounds amazing, minus the one loud burst of non fill.referencing Criss-Cross (LP, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo, 180 Grams) CS 8838
I concur with the other comments: great pressing, wide soundstage, very detailed separation. Top!- Edited 2 years agoMonk did his best work alongside long time collaborator Charlie Rouse(tenor sax), plus bass and drums. Here is a stunning example of Monk's creativity, clever compositions, and joyousness in his playing.
Highlights include "Rhythm-A-Ning", "Hackensack", and "Criss Cross". Rouse frequently finds himself doubling the melody at the upper range of his horn, so intonation is often loose, but it adds a 'wideness' to the ensemble. You wouldn't want it any other way.
This is a clean mid-70s reissue with nice clarity, dynamics, and a nice stereo soundstage. I can't imagine how to improve upon this particular pressing. Grab it if you can find it.
5 stars, recommended. - i have this copy and the trax say same on box and cartridge but when played this is the order I get .... I have now seen this on both cassettes and 8-Track at times :]
