Hello, I'd like to know how this edition sounds. Thanks in advance!
Got this and it is clean and quite, the early Monk recordings are a gem. I have the 2015 Vol.2 75th (red color disc) version and the new 2022 Vol.1 is slightly better with the instruments sounding a little more full but almost equal in sound stage and sound quality. I was surprised the Vol.2 sounded so good in comparison but it is well done. Of course you need to take this recording in context and some songs sound more high fidelity than others due to their age and recording techniques at the time. I am very happy with this release the music is amazing it is well mastered at times it sounds as if it was recorded yesterday.- They say stay away from “fake stereo” but this record sounds great to me in stereo. Good clean wax. The drums really snap on some tracks. Nice mastering in my rather limitedly knowledgable opinion.
- Monk belongs to most influental bop artist and one of the earliest proponent of this jazz era. The majority of Volume 2 was recorded in the Fifties, but the early 1947 tracks here shows clearly his unique style. The way how he put his ideas to the music wasn´t honored by all critics. Of course, later become his songs standards. Also not all musicians understood his approach. One of them who respected his music was Coltrane or Davis. Here also with excellent musicians in perfect mood. The judge sound quality here could be cheap trick. I like pre DMM / PM reissue. Excellent pressing, jacket and analog sound. Even not for audiophiles, but for hi fi enthusiasts like me - must have. Easily recommended.

Is this a normal occurrence for this release?- There is a Japan re-issue in 201, with exactly same Tracklist as the 1989's Volume 2, but is BLUE in colour, and is named "Genius of modern music volume three: 5th & final session on blue note" I accidentally find it in used CD store (mine with Rental CD label), and find that there is not much discussion on this creepy VOLUME THREE.
