Reviews
- Great collection. I wish the pressing honored the music contained within. Not terrible, but these tracks deserve more.
- About as good as it gets from conception to execution to final product. Beautiful package, first rate pressing and an amazing batch of songs/artists. Highly recommended.
- The music here is outstanding. The pressing is very nice and quiet. The problem is the liner notes. Though it does a decent job of explaining the history of the struggle of Black Americans and connecting that with the music of the era, it doesn't specifically address the songs presented here. Who are these artists? Why were these specific songs chosen? When were they recorded and released? What impact, if any, did these songs have?
- Edited 4 years agoA great collection, with well-written liner notes putting the music in the important historical contexts.
The pressing quality is pristine, better than some "audiophile" records. My copies have no weird scuffs or marks from presses, no non-fill, and, if there are any clicks/pops or other surface noise, I can't hear it.
I highly recommend both "Soul of a Nation" collections from Soul Jazz Records. My only regret w/ this set is that there are only two LPs.
