Shadows Fall – The War Within

This is a REALLY excellent pressing. I swear this sounds better than my CD did. Everything is crystal clear and sounds crispy and clean.

What a lovely pressing. I adore this album from my high school days along with KSE’s As Daylight Dies and ATR’s The Fall of Ideals. I was hesitant to get this in fear this album was a cash grab. Thankfully it isn’t.
A massive upgrade to its CDs counterpart.
Right off the bat you notice a more genuine acoustic strings being pluck. Then follow up with the band’s explosion as they come in. It’s pretty crankable on the volume with clipping. Instrument separation is crisp without burying each other. The guitars are thick and crunchy. The bass is sharp, you will hear it on parts you never heard before. Snares and Kicks has depth, your house walls are going to throb.

A great pressing for their best album. Please add this to your collection.

Like many have said center hole is too small and needs to be opened up a bit. However album plays clear and sounds fantastic! Glad to be able to add to my collection. A very underrated band! Great ballads, great drumming and top notch guitar shredding!

Clean pressing, sounds great! Center hole is a tad smaller than usual, but that seems to be happening a lot lately with my recent vinyl acquisitions. Nostalgic album, for sure!

Well, I cleaned it and was all ready to give it a spin, but it won’t fit on my turntable because the center hole is WAAAAYYYY too small. Might need to bring your carving knife if you happen to pick up this pressing!

Does anyone else's copy have some sort of residue buildup in the inner grooves and deadwax? The silver/gray portion of the record looks fine, but the blue in the inner parts of the record seem to have some sort of build up giving it a matte finish. I've tried cleaning it off, but even after running it through a Pro-ject vacuum cleaner multiple times, the oil like residue still remains.

I'm pleased with this release for the most part, a little surface noise on the opening of "The Light That Blinds" which of course is acoustic, and the intro to stillness. Nothing noticeable during the heavy stuff which is most of the album. Paul's bass could be a little louder in the mix but at parts you can still hear him where the bass lines are highlighted. Makes me very nostalgic for my High school days!

The ammo box in this set is a real heavy duty metal ammo box, not a prop or something manufactured by CMR. Complete with rust, it seems that Shadows Fall or CM went down to their local army surplus store and bought 1000 of these and spray painted them.
