Notes

The American singer, songwriter and pianist Nina Simone was active in the period 1954-2002.
During this time she released 19 albums.
Nina Simone at Town Hall (aka At Town Hall) is the third album, released 1959.
It was her third album of that year, her second album for Colpix Records, and her first live album. The basis for the record was Simone's performance at The Town Hall, New York, on 12 September 1959. All of the songs performed at the concert are on the album, however, three of the tracks are studio versions cut the following month.

Didn’t know what to expect from this one as bought on spec. No worries as it’s a nice pressing with plenty of depth. Probably not from the original source but it’s not bad at all. Terrific performances and nice sound.

This CD on Greenline is obviously from surface noise simply taken from an LP in indifferent condition --- I would recommend any buyer to stick with new vinyl re-issue.It is a great selection of Nina at her best and most versatile, from Afro- Cuban to Standards to Gospel.

A truly awful pressing. The right channel has some rather nasty distortion at the end of side one. The surface noise is woeful. I bought this new and returned it. Four Men Without Ears more likely.

Very bad pressing actually : a very strong surface noise on both sides (stronger at the beginning of each side). Such artist as Nina Simone deserves better.

The music is superb, even at the beginning of her career Nina Simone had all the talent and charisma she would be known for later.
This release by Waxtime however is just decent. Not as bad as some of the other public domain law loophole exploiting reissue labels (looking at you, DOL), but still not worth getting your hopes too high.

I bought the reissue (4 Men With Beard) because my Colpix version is so worn out it no longer sounds good. Unfortunately, the reissue does not preserve the original's seemless transitions between the tracks and the breaks (especially between the 2 parts of Summertime) are really annoying. Shame!
