Nina Simone – Nina At Newport

Any comments on the quality of the pressing would be very much appreciated.

The version I have has A2 listed as "Porgy" on the label, with the Gold Golpix label. Anyone have any ideas?

This pressing is a mixed bag. Like the other three concerts by Nina on this Label (Not Now Music) it's clear they used digital sources, and put very little energy or inspiration into anything. All three covers use pictures of the same concert. The packaging feels cheap and thrown together. I knew grey market releases were iffy, but I was hoping to be surprised.

However, this particular pressing does have one added advantage. This concert has one of of Nina's most inspired piano performances, "You'd be so nice to come home to." The original concert recording wasn't the best quality with a fair bit of noise leaving Ms Simone's piano on this track muddled, and most pressings use a fake stereo imaging that leads to a strange listening experience. While this pressing appears to have used a CD, the remastering they did was at least enough to resolve the jarring hyper-stereo of the original release and clean up some of the noise. The result is a slightly clearer record, and since that piece is among my favorite of hers, I am content.

Strangely, on my copy, Side 2 is on Side 1, and vise-versa. Side 1 begins with "Flo Me La".. Anyone else have a copy like this? I'll add photos.

This one was printed and released in Denmark. It is written on the Back of the cover.
