- Edited 10 hours agoDon't have any other pressing to compare but; zero noise floor! Very silent pressing. Good soundstage, balanced (not overly warm or bright), great soundstage and detailed presentation. Maybe not the most dinamic album and pressing, but follows the general sound of that time and sounds great
- Edited 5 days agoSince prices for this classic are getting a bit cheeky, here's my review of this pressing. My copy is still VG+ to borderline NM and I've owned this from new (bought within a couple of weeks of release) and the only one I've ever owned so can't compare to later ones. So: it's a wonderful pressing with a superb soundstage and instrument separation throughout. Guitar and bass especially good here. Disc is on the thin side, but a lot of late 80's early 90's pressings were when the format began to fall from favour over CDs. This does not in any way affect what is a sonically superb spin.
- Think the weight may be a red herring; mine weights 133g, and my regular one weighs 117g - so I'm guessing there may be variations disc by disc on the weight
- I was a little bit worried after reading the mixed reviews here. I can’t compare to an original press but this sounds great to my ears!
- Outstanding sound. Clarity, space, dynamics, everything fantastic. I managed to find a near mint copy in a second hand record shop in Tokyo one year ago . My copy is number 6098 and I am thankful to the previous owner, who took every effort to protect and use well this record. The price I paid was about 40 EUR, yes, true. I could not believe I was so lucky.
- Edited one month agoit's one of those albums you should just have in your collection mate. what else can be said?
this pressing? looks good, sounds good! cannot make any accurate comparisons, but sounds great to my ears. also ditto to the others below; very dynamic! - Edited one month agoLovely looking on clear vinyl and my copy has very little surface noise. However, as others have stated, it’s not the most ‘dynamic’ pressing as the fairly compressed 2009 remaster is its source?
Yet it’s certainly no disgrace and I enjoy listening to it.
Played on Project Essential III with OM20 stylus. - My copy is quiet, flat enough, and delivers sonically. It is a tad bottom heavy at times but still revealed plenty of detail. It is a fun and engaging presentation of this essential Britpop lp.
These seem more scarce now new, but found one and is excellent value for the price point. This pressing reminds me of the Smiths' 2012 that keeps getting reissued which is awesome, because they too sound great and the audience expands.
