Dimmu Borgir – Spiritual Black Dimensions

If someone could kindly check, that knows a little bit more than me, (only a b en a fan since around 2010), I think it release date on this may be incorrect or else it has a copyright date in the future. It has copyright 1999 but also copyright 2001 on it, of course being a reissue, but it doesn’t make sense then that it was released in 2000 with a date in the future on it.

The master used on this lacks a lot of treble, a lot, I recommend to crank the highs up until you can hear the ride cymbal clearly, then the sound opens properly and one can hear small nuances in the music that would otherwise get drowned in the blurriness, such as the keyboard arrangements and drum fills. Packaging is of quite good quality, tho the picture of the band inside the gatefold is very low quality, yet I remember it was the same with the first press CD so it is what it is. A nice album for fans of the Vortex/Mustis era of DB and the prelude for the awesome pair of records that would come after.

how is the master on this - any better than previous editions / presses?

Good Album but TERRIBLE press , poor sound, crackling, loudness war, distorted.. 😞

The dead wax is just barely a centimeter wide on this single disc pressing. Grooves go almost all the way to the label on both sides.

A terrible weak and dull mp3 sound. Don't waste time and money on this. It's a piece of shit.

The sound is great, but my copy is pretty warped. It seems like so many Nuclear Blast pressings are hit and miss. Had this issue with the red Enthrone Darkness Triumphant too.

It sounds fine, just like the cd. However if you are so caught up in production maybe you shouldn't be listening to black metal in the first place huh? It sounds fine like most 90's era black metal releases. Could the production be better? sure but that's why after this album the band started recording @ studio fredman in sweden. If you are a fan of this album as I am... this pressing is just fine just listen to it on a system that has eq if you want to tinker with the sound. Like a lot of vinyl adaptations of albums that were initially released on cd there is some artwork missing from the cd release but it is still a nice layout on gatefold scoop one up if you want the album & don't listen to people's agendas think for yourself & don't be swayed by the pop mob

It sounds very nice. The quality of the record is perfect - there are no clicks or noises. The middle and highs are perfect, the bass is low, but for this genre of music, it's not particularly important. If you have an equalizer, this can be quickly resolved.

Quite a disappointing re-release from Nuclear Blast. This old gem is a great Dimmu Borgir album musically, although the production suffered massively from the typical digital blurry Abyss-production, as do so many other records... I had to listen to my old CD in order to check whether the production was really that bad. I lack any deep bass or clarity and it seems NB just pressed the CD master right on vinyl. I am aware that this is not a remaster of any kind, but some vinyl adaptation would have been nice. Furthermore there is no booklet (as opposite to the EDT vinyl re-issue), and parts like the thank you-part is gone.
I would not recommend anyone to buy this re-issue unless you really need to have all the versions of this album. Very disappointed at NB.
