this release mastering is compressed, sure, but not that much. it can be still fully enjoyed if you have a decent playback system.
i mean, even the best mastered release won't sound good on a cheap turntable with a 20 bucks cartridge and enclosed speakers (crosley anyone??).
before saying "this release sucks" think how much you spent for your equipment.

Quality Control seems to be lacking on this release. Aesthetically, it's excellent. Sound-wise, it's a bit lacking. Seems to be pressed a little too quiet. Also, "Standing Here" has a scratch on my copy that causes the song to be basically unplayable. Played like this right out of the shrink wrap. Disappointing. These colored pressings seem to be hit or miss.

Dynamics suffer a little bit, sounds a little flat, doesn't have good clarity, bass is hollow mudding up the sound. You can tell the plates were made from the high res files as stated. Sounds worse than the CD.

I have this grey marbled version and it certainly sounds great. One of the records is warped though. Playable but with a very visible warp. I may have to invest in a vinyl flat soon.

My grey 'stone' marbled version came with 2x dished LPs :( Gutted, had to return and can't find the same coloured version, any way to differentiate? As I'm sure I didn't order the Deluxe version but got the grey marbled LPs.

This pressing is surprisingly good, audio-wise. The colored vinyl sounds excellent which is a tricky thing to pull off as most colored vinyl presses are a mess. The four sides play at 33 rpm which helps in my opinion -- 45 rpm typically can attract more surface noise if not pressed correctly. The inner sleeves are generic, and they are the poly-lined ones. It's certainly nice to finally have this album on double vinyl as the original press is a single piece of wax with 30 minutes of music crammed on each side. However, this pressing doesn't use the entire sides of the wax on each side. This exercise by repress companies (I'm talking to you, Rhino) will never cease to amaze me -- if you're doing a double vinyl pressing, use the entire side for the music! For instance, side 3, which has the 10 minute "Fool's Gold" and the 4 minute "What The World Is Waiting For" has over an inch of deadwax at the end of the side. It's Fool's Gold for god's sake, stretch it out! Isn't that the point of doing a double vinyl release? You know, give the tracks more breathing room?
This is still a solid repress, and leagues better than the two other presses. Disappointing that it could have been better, but still the best you can get right now.
