Notes
The Cocteau Twins signed an international distribution agreement in 1985, and to mark the occasion—and to give Americans some exposure to what the band had previously recorded—4AD released a compilation album entitled "The Pink Opaque" in November. The album's ten tracks draw from material released from 1982 to 1984, and include songs from "Garlands", "Head Over Heels", "Sunburst and Snowblind", "The Spangle Maker", and "Treasure", as well as "Millimillenary", previously only available on a various artists cassette. "Wax and Wane," the earliest track on the album, had been re-mixed.

Reviews
- Compared to the original 4AD/Relativity release, it's slightly tame but still retains most of the dynamics. Pressing is flat. A worthy purchase.
- Not the worst stopgap for getting an earlier pressing, and free of the kind of defects that plagued many of the reissues pressings. But overall the remasters modern adoration for big bottoms leaves little room for all the dynamics at play here. Particularly the layers of vocal, which on this particular record should probably be the focal…the middle is a mud eq adjusting highlights rather than fixes. It’s seems clear a fat bottom was the remasters main obsession.
- The quality control of this pressing is questionable. Audio plays fine but the play hole was too small for the spindle, I had to force the record down and it got stuck when I needed to take it out.
- Edited 8 months agoStraight out of the gate the balance is off. The Spangle Maker vocals don't sit with the rhythm section. Recurrent throughout. Punchy and muffled midrange. Not an issue with the digital version. Not the first 4ad repress I've run into this.
- This cassette sounds better than my OG ‘86 vinyl pressing of the same compilation (which was clearly mastered for CD). Highly recommend picking this up instead!
- Good sounding cassette. I would definitely recommend looking for Dolby cassettes from this time. I personally feel that they sound better compared to others.

Anyone else notice that the volume level on Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops is lower than the rest of the tracks on this release for some reason? I always have to turn the volume up on that track.- My copy is noticeably warped on side A (irregularly cupped) but plays fine.
Some light clicking sounds, no light pops or significant whooshing.
Still, I am learning the hard way to stay away from MPO pressings. - Looking for assistance identifying my cassette copy of The Pink Opaque...
Like the above entry, the j-card is laid out the same (without a barcode), and the white shell's imprint has the same formatting / information placement as well as no time markings on the clear window or the shell itself.
Where things get tricky - the spindle holes have a rectangular border rather than the classic "band aid" / capsule shape like in the photos above.
Is this also a US first press? It seem the other 9 entries do not account for this, but I don't want to make a brand new entry in error.
